If you're pulling pots you get them reasonably often, depends on if you're a commerical fisherman or just a 2 pot license civvie. I haven’t ever had my own license so just have gone and pulled pots with my mates and my best mate used to work on a cray boat so he used to get them for me.

But I can drive about 15mins from my house and get one most days, you just go to the places that the boats drop their crays off to and ask for an occy. Used to cost me $20 for a fresh one. Sometimes they dont have any but most days they do, gotta get there early. I also buy the boxes of frozen cray bait as well, cheap fishing bait and top quality (usually mackerel under a foot long).

Sounds like you get them quite often, do you think they are in danger of going extinct because they get captured so often?
