Honestly my entire family, both mother and fathers side, are exactly like this as well. So were a lot of people we knew back in our old neighborhood in Queens. Everyone was friendly, but no one was really emotional. Everyone says Italian Americans are a bunch of over emotional loudmouths but my entire side of the family were/are extremely stoic
My wife actually found it insane how little my family shares what we are feeling. It took me a lot of time to even slightly open up to her, and even still I struggle. And I’m not talking about crying or any of that (absolutely never cry in front of anyone crew), but even when it comes to airing some grievances, I really just struggle to do it. If I have a chitty day at work I’ll just bottle it up and will never even consider complaining to anyone about it.
I think that I do show my kids love, I just hope it’s enough. I feel like it is, but for me it’s a low bar to begin with
Edit: just realized I opened up more to a miscer than I have to 99% of people I know on real life ffs

I think Italians can be expressive, but that’s not necessarily emotional. My dad and grandpa were also very stoic. Basically the strong silent type like Gary Cooper. Both worked shitty jobs, long hours, struggled in various ways and kept it all to themselves. Did what they had to do. Funny enough, my dad never gave me a hug or said he loved me until I was in my 20s lol srs. Now he does occasionally. My mom still doesn’t say it although she has other issues I’ve shared. My grandma and female cousins are naturally more open, extroverted, etc. they can be loud and brash but I still wouldn’t say emotional. They’re tough ladies.
Believe it or not, I pretty much only complain on the misc because it’s a semi-anonymous platform to vent. It’s therapeutic. The thought of doing any of it to people I know irl makes me sick tho.
Just based on the misc alone you seem like a good dad brah. I’m sure they feel the love even if you’re not showing it every minute. Sometimes too much can drown a kid and make them push away. A healthy balance is best IMO.

I never kept in touch with my secondary school peeps. Never added any or followed on social media or anything. Out of the 60 or so guys in my year, I would not be surprised if at least one of them is no longer with us.

This happened at my school too. When I was 14 one of my closest friends died in a freak accident. Got hit by a car, declared brain dead. It was devastating.
When I tell you EVERY FUCKING SLOOT came out of the woodwork to make it about them, it was insane. People he openly talked shit about or never mentioned showed up to school in tears claiming to be his best friend. The dude was over my house every single day, knew my family, I knew his. I never called out the frauds, but the list was long.
Even some guys used his death for their own personal gain. One of our legit friends would pull that card to get laid at parties for like the next 2 years and it worked every time.
Personally I never felt comfortable expressing my grief publicly, so I kept it all bottled inside most of the time.
What’s fucked up is I remember the news interviewed four of us about the accident and our friend’s legacy the day after he died. When the story aired, they cut out my interview, but showed two people who barely knew him (ded fkin srs).

Balding is death. If you have no hair, you have no life.
