C'mon brah, don't pull the "you didn't like it 'cause you're dumb" card. It was a stupid twist, this is coming from a fan of Nolan's movies (besides Interstellar and TDKR).

Quentin Tarantino has a massive ego but I think he's able to keep it from affecting the quality of his movies for the most part. What specifically do you find pretentious? The worst example I can think of is the fourth wall break in the middle of The Hateful Eight (the "Starting to see pictures, ain't ya?" part).

It can be hard to put a finger on it, but it is overly clear when he wants to make a scene look cool. His movies are not just for me, but kudos to those who appreciate them.

shutter island citizen kane, and not just because it was old I actually kind of like rear window. I would say the godfathers but i've never gotten all the way through them. I hate almost every modern movie but I won't count that because movie snobs do too. If we can branch over to shows.... breaking bad, sopranos, dexter. and before you call me a hipster I do find the wire to be the best thing to ever grace TV, game of thrones s1 2 3 and 6 closely behind along with seasons 1-3 of lost, as well as generation: kill, which are all almost cliche for how highly rated they are.

post pulp fiction he went full blown virtue signalling pander mode, also he can't create a real villain he uses the things we already hate most in the world as a crutch (nazis, women beaters, racists, etc...)

Scarface. Tried and tried but hate all the people plus cant understand a damn thing they are saying.

To be honest if Turbo and Scarface were in at the same time i would hands down pick Turbo. Love that movie.

The thing with Citizen Kane and The Godfather is that even if you don't like them, they were so innovative that they paved the way for the movies that came after them. Some of your favorite movies undoubtedly are the way they are because of those two films.

I thought the original Ghostbusters sucked. I hadn't seen it until recently, and thought it would be equivalent in entertainment to back to the future...

Maybe it was good in the 80s, but I hated it.

It's about being gay and in the closet. Srs. Everyone says it's a critique about materialism and all that shiit. It's really an allegory about being gay and hiding your true self. The author Chuck Palahniuck has confirmed it himself.

The entire book and movie is filled to the brim with homoerotic imagery and dialogue.

Trust me I really wanted to like it but it just didn't come full circle for me. Don't get me wrong, it was a solid movie based on the acting, screen play, genre and tone alone, but I never really got to fully believe in Brando's character and I never received an adept explanation as to why he went AWOL. I know it was alluded to and all but I just never fully believed it. The whole last 30 mins or so of the movie was just off for me. I did really like the build up though.

That's not what it's about. Palahniuk threw in a couple ambiguously gay references because he's gay, but that's pretty much it. Link to where Palahniuk says the whole thing was about being in the closet?

Edit: And remember, the movie is different than the book. I disagree with what you're saying regardless, but even if Palahniuk says the book is about being in the closet, the movie is still mostly about materialism, the modern man losing his masculinity, and our tendency to follow the herd. Fincher (the director) and Uhls (the screenwriter) pushed the materialism angle hard.

Hateful Eight - turned that off after a 1.5 hours, it was endless talking about nothing, didn't care about any of the characters. They'd make some big revelation like this characters son was killed by this guy but they hadn't developed the characters to a point where i cared.

Do you have a source for Chuck Palahniuk having said this? Not saying that you're wrong, I'm just curious.
