As life goes on, I'm kind of seeing how narrow the road I'm on really is.
Right off the bat, I could see that I had zero interpersonal skills and was too weak to do any kind of labor for a living. Right there, you know how many doors that shuts? I was pretty much railroaded onto STEM right there. I was always considered a smart kid, always the best at whatever schoolwork I tried to do. So my parents ****ing drove me hard in school, even though they have pretty much no education themselves. It was all "work hard in school and you're going to make it in life, you're going to be the boss of some place one day." I believe they saw early that I had no other options besides academics.
As time goes on, I'm seeing that I'm not really even that smart. I'm a very concrete thinker, so I just murdered the easy, direct **** in high school by cookbooking step-by-step formulas for doing each type of problem and cribbing off the diagrams I was given. Now just cheat on the harder homework questions and prep well for the tests and you're graduating in the top two percent of your class. But as I get into college, I've been kind of struggling with the more abstract concepts (This radio wave propagates through space to an antenna, what dimensions of the antenna would maximize this gain?). And I know now that the abstract thinking is what actually makes money. The concrete stuff is computer ****.
So my best play is to go down a road where I can maximize my quantitative skills, which have a lower ceiling than I thought. And there's not a lot of leeway off of that road because I just don't have any other skills to offer. I couldtryto join the military - but I wouldn't make it through PT. I couldtryto start a business, but with no connections and no interpersonal skills, how far would I make it? You get the picture. I seriously don't see any realistic alternative to STEM wagecucking.
I'm just playing the deck of cards I have as best I can.

Willpower and drive have little to do with the latter.

Older brah checking in to give you some hard truth.
I know people who live their life kicking ass and taking names, and they profit. Want to make some money? Rent out a room in your apartment/house. Don't want to deal with a P.O.S. room mate? Ok, enjoy being middle class or worse, because you're a whiny biche who doesn't want to share his home with a stranger.

I let my kids enjoy being kids. As they got older I didn't paint a picture of life being all sunshine and rainbows. It was quite the opposite and being an adult wasn't always fun.

Do you wake up every morning with a roof over your head and dry, do you have indoor plumbing, do you eat scraps out of a dumpster or eat off the dirt if no, then congratulations you're doing better than millions of people who chit in a hole in the ground and drink water that animals crap and decay in

Growing up my father opened my eyes to both the good and bad of life. He would drive me through the most expensive neighborhoods in the city and the worst on Sunday mornings.
We grew up with not much, but he wanted to show my brother and I "it could be a whole lot worse"
Thats how he instilled work ethic in us. Work hard --- live like these people. Be lazy -- live like these people
As I got older he took me into the office. Showed me what a 9-5 looked like.
Then he let me talk to friends that owned businesses all different sorts and let me form my own opinion.

You can't have the "all other things constant" approach.
There are so many variables from one person to the next.
Your schtick sucks and it screams insecurity.

lmao yeah, its cuz so many teachers are like 22 year old females who never lived in the real world, so they tell the kids that everyone will be rich and super successful.
if i had a kid i would tell him/her that to be successful you have to get decent grades, go to cheap college, meet successful people, focus on a real profession thats in demand for jobs.

If you tell the kids how chit will most likely realistically play out then you give them the attitude that most of you washed up *******s have. Why even work hard or put in any effort if the probability is high that I'll have a chitty existence.
You make it seem like the sky is the limit for kids so that hopefully they will work harder and become more than just a loser like OP complaining about life on a bodybuilding forum.

EDIT:^^^fukkin wizard giving the short version.
I took all the hardest **** I could in high school. Came out of there with 40-50 hours of college credits and I'd done math up to differential equations. I got a full ride to an out of state college, 100% merit based based on my academics. I worked at that ****, dude. The material came pretty easily to me, but I also knew I had to maximize that opportunity while it was there. I was busy every night either doing homework or doing bitch work labor for my dad on the weekends.
The problem with college isn't necessarily the material either. It's harder for me, yeah, but that **** is hard for everyone. I could get by with Bs with half the effort I'm putting in now. The real problem is that that college scholarship came with a 3.5 GPA requirement, which any engineering student can tell you is absolutely retarded. So I've ended up LDAR'ing probably 80 hours a week on schoolwork just so I can keep the scholarship I worked to earn. None of that **** matters in real life, but it's either keep grinding on that and graduate debt free, or waste everything I worked for in high school, move back in with my parents, take out $15,000 a year in loans, and commute 3 hours every day to go to the closest college back home.
Yeah, If I wanted to go start a business or join the army or ****, I could quit college right now. But look at the opportunity cost of that - all of HS pretty much thrown away, two years of college thrown away, and the potential of a 60K desk job in an air-conditioned office gone. I'm not going to act like that's an amazing lot in life, but what's better that would be worth losing all that?
And as far as ownership, there's not much of a correlation between working and success. You could open a restaurant and pour every waking minute you've got into it (and a lot of those guys do), just to bring home 30 Gs after expenses and taxes. Or hell, McDonald's could open next door, your place goes under, and all that work you did was for naught. You could spend nights and nights coding some new software, but if no one's interested in buying it, that work didn't make you a dime.
On the other hand, some distant relative could die tomorrow, will you a few acres of green-field land in the Bay Area, and you'd be rich without lifting a finger.
Ownership can take different forms. If you're running a business, then yeah, it's going to take a ton of effort no matter what, and there's no guarantee of success. Statistically it's a lot less likely to make you rich than ruin you. But ownership of assets (and businesses are one) doesn't always require work to get, andthat'sthe **** that makes you rich.

Thats your fault. You're not willing to develop yourself into the ideal person to make it in the military, or start a company.
You're content with wagecucking and unwilling to change.
So let's say I want to join the army. I would have to spend a year or so just getting into shape, then enlist into a famously micro-managed environment for 14K a year plus room and board. You're content with wagecucking and unwilling to change.
Is that reallybetterthan STEM wagecucking?
I could force myself to do something I've never had the talent for and may not be physically able to do (you think my 130 pound ass is going to be any good at lugging ammo belts around for 10 hours a day?), or I could take a realistic look at things and try and make the most of the talents I have.

Stay in school. Continue to work hard at making the grades
Graduate, hopefully get a job at a great company, forget about the pay, go to wherever you can learn real world shiet the quickest
Soak that in as quick as possible, make as many genuine connections as you can
Then when you see an angle on a business or another company to propel your career take it
Its not that complicated.

Good to see other old guys spitting some knowledge on here.

Read all of what you stated, FAP*******, and that chit does suck. But id still say work hard and keep failing in prefer for you to keep growing and succeeding. Also studying and working IS NOT LDARing if you working towards yourself. Some things come slower than others, and some also don't have the skills or talent to take on the highest jobs, but that shouldn't keep you from being the best you can be. Aim high, and even if you fail, you still have something to work with even more than if you just settled for less.

Unfortunately, that networking is how **** gets done in the real world. I've been able to circumvent it by grade-grinding, but that's not going to last much longer.
