Perhaps you had a greater support network than he did, despite you moving around often? This kid legit felt like everyone was turning against him. All his "friends" turned against him, and he was bullied all the time. EVERYONE has a breaking point.

I hope the guilt of what those other little pricks did to this guy haunts them for the rest of their lives.

Poor kid.

I used to think I was getting bullied at school all the time, around 13-14 it clicked in my head that it's just how kids are to everyone and there is no point getting upset about it. One of the most valuable lessons I learned in school IMO, having a thick skin is essential for doing well in life.

I'm not entirely sympathetic to people who opt out like this though, unless he was getting savagely beaten on the daily, it really isn't that bad. Just about everyone gets bullied at one time or another.

Why is it whenever a story like this comes up you always get the "survival of the fittest" claptrap or he was weak, should of manned up?

Christ do you have no empathy are you that much of a sociopath your first response to hearing about a kid committing suicide is to think he or she was weak and not what a tragedy this was for all those involved.

One of the most mentally strong people I know, doesn't give a damn what other people think thought about committing suicide due to bullying as a child. People who have been man enough to join the armed forces and put their lives at risk for their country have committed suicide because of the brutal bullying they have received while in training and you expect a child to deal with that level of stress, mental as well as physical torture and deal with it better than an adult?

Honestly you are terribly ignorant but I do see where you're coming from.

The problem is, kids at that age do not realize what they are doing. At 13 years old you kinda just go along with what your friends or the "popular" kids say and do. Very little individuality at that age. For this one reason I don't really agree with the father calling the bullies monsters. The teachers that didn't even bother looking into what was happening are at fault, but I'm sure anybody who has been that age can understand that trash talking without thinking about consequences was a very common thing.

I was a semi victim of bullying when I was around that age also. I mean fuk I was pissed off, lost some friends and had a few fights, but that's life right? The main problem is that some kids do not have a very strong sense of self confidence or a "don't let haters get to you" kind of mentality. It's so sad that this kid took his life over something that his childish peers would have grown out of a few years later.

Of course, none of it was right. But cmon, it's not like they stuffed him in a trash can or threw eggs at him. I'm sure I'll get plenty of negs and hate for saying this, but balls thrown at him in GYM class and some name calling is some very typical behavior for kids at that age... we've all been through that. Just depends if you're able to laugh it off or get emotional and do stupid things.

The guy who posted that absolute drivel "survival of the fittest" has a join date: August, and a post count of less than 10.

Anyway, I agree completely with your post. Doesn't surprise me to some extent, the kind of replies this topic has recieved. After all, the MISC has had a terrorist post here and a serial killer.

I would bet that roughly 99% of people who commit suicide are suffering with a mental disorder to some degree. Everyone goes through hard times and some people even consider suicide but the vast majority don't go through with it. There has to be something seriously wrong mentally to go against every instinct in your body and commit suicide.

I'm certainly not blaming the kid, he dealt with demons out of his control that most of us will never be able to comprehend. Lol at the people saying he should have just toughened up, being bullied is just the tip of the ice berg here. Feel really bad for the kid and those who knew him

That kid's handwriting is nearly identical to mine as a young teen.

This is so horrible to have a 13 year old take his own life because he felt he had no way out. Those bullies he named in that letter will have to live with the guilt for the rest of their lives.

I'd be lying if I said I never bullied anyone when I was a kid though. I got bullied and at times was the bully. neither of which happened to any great extent though. just little sh!t that I honestly don't think was much different from the norm for young boys. I can't imagine the guilt I would feel if one of those kids had killed himself. guess i was just lucky none of them did? idk. the bullies in this story were relentless though.

Just seems unfair in a way that there's probably tons of wayyy worse bullies out there who never had to face the guilt that these bullies are gonna face, simply because their victim didn't take his own life. There's been bullies who have sexually abused their victims with broomsticks, yet they still haven't taken their own life.

It's kinda like drunk drivers who kill someone in an accident. They have to live their entire lives with that guilt. Meanwhile tons of other people like me have (stupidly) driven under the influence a couple times and were lucky enough not to kill someone in an accident.

I'm not condoning either action in the slightest. you shouldn't drive drunk or bully others, period. just that the consequences to both scenarios do seem to involve a degree of "luck" for lack of a better term.

Idk if you can ever "stop bullying" because it's hard wired in our DNA that whenever we sense "weakness" in another person, there's a tendency for us to poke at it and exploit it. It's a hard fact of life. The teachers can only do so much. And clearly they dropped the ball in this situation. But I think the only thing you can really do is teach kids how to stand up for themselves. martial arts training is definitely one way to do that. once i joined the wrestling team, the bullying stopped. you don't even have to be good at it. just being on the team will give you a group of people to back you up. for the most part, wrestling teams in American high schools are a tight-knit crew that has each other's backs. and it teaches you how to achieve things on your own, without anyone else to help you. prepares you for the real world.

Gotta love this modern way of thinking. Nanny State 101: The gov't and teachers are responsible for raising my kid up and making sure the big bad world doesn't get to him (or me).

> Raise your kid properly. Communicate and recognize when he's a fuarking bullied & depressed 13 year old. Let him know you've got his back. Teach him some chit (i.e. life skills).
> Go talk to people at the school.
> Pull him out of that school if it's not up to snuff.

Pissening. I feel bad for the kid being raised by emotionally distant or incompotent parents and attending a chitty school with chitty classmates in Staten Island. RIP in Peace.

I see what you're getting at but I disagree. Being bullied certanly instilled more drive in me, but I think it did more harm than it did good. I'm a lot more insecure than my friends who just cruised through school without getting harrased every day.

+1

In retrospect, the kids who were bullied harshly at my primary school and high school are not doing that well today, compared to their other counterparts who were only bullied a little or not at all. It's quite sad to see. Some of these people I used to hang out with.

What's funny though - many of the bogans who did this bullying have ended up as complete dropkicks in life.

While I think every kid experiences bullying to some degree not every kid gets the same level of bullying. I was bullied a little at first, the odd punch or kick, the odd racist comment but I had too short a temper for it too ever get out of hand as I often would fight back in a frenzy if anyone took it too far. My siblings had it far worse though.

Some kids will just experience verbal abuse, some will just have a bit of violence while others will be brutally tortured. There was that case a while back where a disabled kid was sodomised by some bullies, another where some kid was set on fire by their bully.

I do think kids now have it tougher when it comes to bullying due to social media. Even when you get home you get bullied online, while it may not be physical it's still soul destroying.

Did he tell the teachers? I find it hard to believe they wouldn't do anything and I'm shocked a 13 year would even think of suicide. School is one of the easiest times in anyone's life, life is much harder afterwards so I wonder of he would of coped anyway.

This. Exactly this.

The only way you end bullying is by fighting back. Even if you get beaten up, the bully will know he can't keep picking on you because he knows you will try and fight him back. Fuk this PC bullchit where the person who is getting bullied gets punished harder for standing up for themselves. The only way schoolyard bullying stops is through physical force

Teachers and schools don't do anything until either:

a. The student kills themselves.
b. The parents threaten legal action.

and even when they do "punish" the bully, it's some limp-wristed 2 day suspension.

Maybe, I just had my mom and younger brothers but my mom was a very involved parent who gave tough love whenever necessary. He probably needed someone to make him feel like they were in his corner no matter what and clearly he never got that. When I was his age I saw a couple groups of friends just straight up send one kid into exile like they did to him out of the blue, it can be pretty rough.

Kids can be brutal as fuk, as for the bullies I remember a similar story a few years back and one of the girls who told a kid to commit suicide(and did) openly stated she didnt think it was her fault.

It really depends on the person.. school can be extremely hard, and life outside/after school can go smoothly.

Life has gotten extremely easy for me compared to how I was during school.

Yeah, faaark. I can't imagine how bad it would be these days. I finished high school in 2004 - before ******** became popular here in Australia 2007+.

At least if I had a chit day, and had to put up with some ******* bullying me, I could have time away and do other things after school (sport, gaming, hang with friends of my brothers etc). The whole "fighting back" thing that some people said on here while somewhat true, doesn't ALWAYS hold true. Bullies often pick on those they percieve to be as "weak" or whatever, and even if the bullied kid fights back... this is the kind of baiting that some bullies WANT.... and they keep doing the same chit to the kid. I've seen it happen many times.

Similar to you, the bullying I experienced was nothing compared to what some of the other kids endured. One big guy from my year was bullied pretty badly, he was very overweight. After high school, he lost HEAPS of weight, packed on muscle, and pulled heaps of chicks. The guys who used to bully him all stfu after that, and even started to kiss his ass lmao.... as he was a bouncer for a while at a popular bar (also highly educated now too - something NONE of the bullies accomplished).

At the end of the day, you don't "win" anything by making someone feel like chit about themselves.

Teachers and schools don't do anything until either:

a. The student kills themselves.
b. The parents threaten legal action.

and even when they do "punish" the bully, it's some limp-wristed 2 day suspension.
I have to agree on fighting back, bullies pick on easy targets. My siblings were both horribly bullied, I wasn't because I had such a short fuse that if anyone got too rough to too personal I'd go into berserker mode and go for them. So from about 13 onwards nobody even tried to bully me because they knew it would end up with them having to deal with a red faced Asian kid foaming at the mouth and fighting back. I wish I had known my siblings were being bullied at the time I would have told them to fight back or at least tell me who was bullying them so I could do something about it.

And yes most schools do phuck all really when it comes to bullying, they'd much prefer to ignore the problem or hope it sorts itself out. My niece was bullied there response was to switch her to different classes so she was isolated from her friends and then bullied between classes. She was then told to avoid the bully and make sure to take a different route home so the bully couldn't follow her home. Bully then pushed my nieces friend down some stairs, once again they did nothing but talk to the bully.

I even think punishing the bully is a cop out as usually there is a reason for the bullies behaviour. With my niece her bully had learning difficulties, was from a broken home with a physically abusive father. Bullies themselves are usually just victims of other bullies or hiding some other issue. You need to find out why they are so behaving the way they are once you do that and help the child their behaviour will improve.

so the parents knew about the bullying beforehand and nothing was done?
They told the school about it but I feel like it's their responsibility to take care of it (talking to the bully's parents or confronting the bully themselves).

RIP kid

I don't know if it's the same in the US, but a lot of schools in the UK brush bullying under the carpet because they don't want to damage their reputation. Bullying should result in instant dismissal, but ultimately the punishment is weak in this PC age, so the bullies get away with it. I agree that physical reaction is the only way sometimes, but some kids don't have that option inside of them.

agreed. comedian Bill Burr said it best. "You don't have to win the fight, you just have to PUT UP a fight. the idea of the whole thing is get it off of me, and get it on to the next weaker kid."

bullies go for the weakest targets, the ones they assume are the least likely to fight back at all. if parents are that worried about their kids being bullied, they need to try and get him into some sort of martial arts. wrestling, jiu jitsu, etc. even if they don't have to use it in a fight, it'll give them the self confidence to stand up for themselves verbally, before it even gets physical.

With girls, bullying is much more complicated. Martial arts training isn't gonna solve a lot when their primary weapon is mental warfare. not to mention it's not something many girls care to get into. Idk how the fuk you can deal with that one.

Well this is definitely very sad and tragic. Made more appalling if the teachers were witness to extreme bullying, saw this kids will being crushed and tried to play no role. But having said that, I was bullied at a really young as well because I was quite skinny. Eventually I fought back, got my own social circle, became good at athletics and started to mature mentally+physically. Some people don't have that fortitude though, so it's sad to see such a drastic action to bullying. Still, it makes you wonder outside of some serious psychological issues if there were other factors, I mean at that young how bad really is the bullying? Teachers also can't be psychologists to every student and foresee problems as well, but if they were fully negligent during class hours then they should feel some shame.
