I just moved to FL and one one of the first things I did was get supplies knowing a storm was not an if, but when. People looking for water and chit a day or two before a major storm are Darwin material. Other than filling up my car with gas, I didn't need a thing. Hopefully it's not too bad a storm. Same here. I keep a stash of water on hand to last my family 2 weeks.

I LOL at the people complaining that the stores are out of batteries, water, etc during these times. Morans.

Parking garages are the safest buildings to be in during a hurricane, believe it or not. Even though it's "open" to the wind on the sides on every floor, the wind inside is usually less than 40% of the strength compared to wind outside. And since you parked your car on a higher floor, you are safe from any catastrophic flooding. And, the building is steel reinforced concrete, there is no way a hurricane is bringing it down. And, if you're smart, you can figure out which way the wind is blowing (Atlantic hurricanes spin counter-clockwise), and then park on one of the descending/ascending ramps on the opposite side. You will barely feel any wind compared to whats raging just outside.

in fact, for Pro tip level, find a parking garage that's connected to a hospital. Then if you need medical attention or supplies in case of catastrophic emergency or personal injury, you just walk in the hospital from the garage, and your car is safe and sound. plus, hospitals are some of the first places to get their electricity and other services restored

I've been riding all these hurricanes for years, I don't do **** while I track the hurricane via National Hurricane Center myself and decide if it's going to hit me or not.

I don't pay attention to local news stations, because they LOVE ratings and hype up every single storm to be Armageddon and cause a panic for everyone (ad revenue cha ching).

Lived in FL my whole life. In 2004 when 4 hurricanes hit the state, there were many without power for weeks. You can call people that are prepared 'bunker nuts', but it's the ones that are not prepared that are nuts.

It's not uncommon for the power to go out (without a hurricane) and you are under a boil water advisory for a few days. It's better to have the stuff on hand than trying to rush out to fight over a case of water.
