It's the rep system and something needs to be done about it. The rep system simply does not encourage honest and civil discourse, especially in it's current state. The misc is generally biased when it comes to certain topics. There are some intelligent and thoughtful miscers, and i see them occasionally. The second these intelligent posters bring up these topics for discussion with an opinion that does not necessarily align with that of the misc, they are hit with staggering amount verbal abuse and negs. This discouraging the intelligent posters from sharing his/her insightful thoughts. What discourages them more though, are the negs. When you are red, you're generally perceived to be a troll and people don't pay attention to your posts or take you seriously. So the intelligent posters become reserved and diffident. Until they eventually stop posting altogether.

Now, we are left with know-it-all airheads who need their safe spaces. This can be fixed easily, by taking the power away from the airheads.

And so I propose this to admins..

Reset everyone reps. Cap it at 5k, gets reset every year. No more reds, just posters with 0 reps.

I guarantee this forum will be infinitely better under these measures. It will truly differentiate good posters from bad ones. It also allows new beginnings
