As for escalating the situation, I would disagree. The situation was already escalated when the deceased tried armed robbery. It wasn't like the person came in, and simply asked for a handout (which some homeless do without any violence), and the employee then pulled his gun.

The deceased was the AGGRESSOR, not the other way around.
This depends on your definition of "escalation". Were there shots fired prior to the employee shooting? No? Then the employee escalated the situation, despite being clearly instructed not to. It is also important to note that this might shooting might be personal.

I'm not sure how to respond to this? Coporations specifically state that in an attempted robbery, you are to do nothing besides give in to demands.

Lol at trying to oppress me.

Seeing as how the mother states in the article that her son committed crimes to provide for his own child, I'd wager that he was interested in MONEY, and not killing anybody.

Why don't we ask him about his motives? Oh wait.

This hypothetical situation about the rape is not occurring at a pizza hut, with a customer trying to rape an employee.

Who cares what his motives were. He showed up with a gun and tried to rob (and possibly more) the place. He played stupid games and won his stupid prize.

How is anyone supposed to know his true motive? He could have robbed the store for MONEY and then shot the witnesses dead.
Please, you're acting like the training at a Pizza Hut is comparable to military or police training. No one imagines that they will ever be in this type of situation when working at a Pizza Hut, so your survival instincts easily will overpower any remedial "training" you have (probably watching a 3 minute video I assume).

This isn't as black and white as you make it to be. Suggesting that he deserved to die for trying to provide for his son is a little far fetched. There are numerous social issues here, like the fact that he was most likely robbing the place due to poverty caused by white privilege.

Precisely. So why go as far as killing somebody when you don't know what their TRUE motive is?

1. I'm glad the employee did some escalation. Someone pulls a gun on me, I'm not waiting to see what he does next.
Personal? Now you are making up crap

2. Give in to demands. Good way to invite more of the same. "it's easy. The employees have to give in" I worked at a 7-11. Store policy was to do nothing about anyone robbing the place. Guess what. We got robbed all the time, mostly by the same people over and over.
But nobody was stupid enough to use a gun.

3. Pizza Hut is private property?

4. We don't even know if this was the policy. Could have been a bad neighborhood and the employer knew that the employee was packing.

Yup!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wendy's_massacre

Cliffs:

- All 7 employees in the restaurant at time of robbery were bound and gagged and shot in the head.
- 5 Died.
- $2400 stolen.
- 2 perps caught.
- 1 perp sentenced to death.
- ******* liberals on NY state supreme court vacated death penalty.
- NY taxpayers now forced to provide free room, board, food, and entertainment for life to 2 perps who should have been turned into worm food long ago.

The article said the the robber was a former employee.

I'm assuming this guy didn't leave on great terms, if a former employee was walking back in armed I would be expecting him to shoot the place up.

Yes because we are all mind readers and know that the scumbag pointing a loaded weapon at you isn't going to shoot you dead after robbing the place. That's never happened before right?

1. Read the full article before posting. You'd know what I was talking about had you spent the time reading the material before getting owned by me on a bodybuilding forum.
2. I'd wager that people are LESS likely to rob the same place over and over again, based on common sense.
3. Pizza hut is not public property, and most restaurants and stores, are not public property. You cannot chill their and do as you wish. It's not your right.
4. Policy is mandated by corporate. They don't care if it's a bad neighborhood.

Control your emotions.
You are highlighting the point I was trying to make earlier against that poster. We are NOT mind readers, and therefore, there is no way we can possibly know his true motive. But based on the social situation, there's reason to believe he was NOT trying to kill somebody, because he was trying to provide for his child.

So I assume anyone in this potentially life-threatening situation is just supposed to hope that he's not going to pull the trigger on them? That makes sense. Brb hope you never have a robber shove a gun in your face in the middle of the night: "But sir, are you going to harm my family or just take my things? I need to know if I should shoot you or not." Maybe he should have gotten a job. It is black & white. If you try to rob someone, and that person/people defend themselves & you get yourself killed/injured, it's 100% entirely your fault.

You are very tough and masculine.

I'm not the one who made the motive argument. Divert that to the poster who did.

He DID have a job. He used to work at the Pizza Hut that he robbed, as stated in the article.

Also, you are assuming he was unemployed. Plenty of the people under the poverty level work full time at jobs that don't pay a living wage.

To those of you who are waving the "I'll shoot if I'm robbed flag", aren't you told in CCW training that you are supposed to avoid situations that might result in somebody getting shot, despite carrying a gun?

The mere fact that deceased HAD a weapon is escalation. He was the aggressor. You don't WAIT to get shot to shoot back. As I said, if the deceased simply walked in and polity asked for some change, left-overs, food, and the employee brought out a gun and shot him, then yes, the employee ESCALATED the situation because the deceased was NOT the aggressor.

Being 'instructed' not to shoot or carry a weapon has nothing to do with what unfolded. All that tells us is that the employee defied company policy if there was a no weapons policy. It doesn't define the situation that occurred.

If the deceased wasn't interested in killing anyone, why in the world would he have brandished a LETHAL weapon? What's the purpose of a lethal weapon to an aggressor if it wasn't to threaten someone's life to get what you want? What if the employee wasn't armed, but didn't comply with the robbers demands. Does the robber then say, "Sorry, just wanted to show you this cool firearm I got. Wanna hold it?!"

I mean...really?

As for providing for daughter.... I'm sure there are millions who are worse off who don't go around robbing people with a lethal weapon. Other than he can "try" to get a job, there are social programs that will provide for children. Food stamps come to mind. Free child healthcare. etc.

What did the child NEED that made this person rob someone at gun point? Child and mother are alive... ask them.
I'm not blessed with riches, but I am rich with blessings.
Thank you, LORD, my God.

Ok, and when a robber kills your child who screams, I hope you don't regret not being able to defend yourself against someone who is committing a crime and wielding a deadly weapon. Makes sense.

LOL at the idea somebody pointing a gun at you doesn't mean to convey to you that your life is in danger.

If my life is in danger, I will take action to preserve it. I am not going to rely 100% on the whims of some dirtbag waving a gun in my face.

An employee pulling out a gun escalates the situation. What if the kids robbing the place weren't intent on killing anybody, but now noticed that someone pulled a gun? They would be more inclined to use their gun.
Just wanted to re-iterate how stupid everything in this comment is.

My emotions are controlled I don't know why you're even bringing that up.
Exactly! The Pizza Hut employee is not a mind reader so how is he supposed to know the robber only wants money to supposedly help his kid, which may or may not be the case. What he does know is that a scumbag with a loaded lethal weapon could end his life at any moment and is not willing to bet his life that he only wants the money.

Are you seriously justifying robbery and the claiming we don't have the right to self defense because he was just trying to provide? Go to a church, a mission anywhere BUT armed robbery for help! You come at me with a weapon, you're meeting the business end of a short barrel Ruger SP101 357. GTFO with this liberal feel good bull****. I am not going to ask you 20 questions about your life situation

RE: RainingBoob -

Every situation is fluid. You talk about what his motive might have been.. Great. Let's assume you (an employee at Pizza Hut) could establish a dialogue with this guy and find out what that motive is/was. Super. He may have come in there only planning to get some $$$, but again, the situation is fluid. He could change his mind in a split second and decide he doesn't want any witnesses left alive, and blow everyone's head off. If someone is pointing a gun in my face, I'm not going to give him the opportunity to come to such a decision.. I'm going to kill that fuker the 1st chance I get to neutralize the threat to myself & my coworkers/place of employment (mostly myself).

Child and mother are alive... ask them.
Is the deceased supposed to walk into pizza hut, point his fists at the employees, and say "give me your money, I'm serious"? The gun, in this case, was a conversation piece, used to necessitate the interaction of increasing the victim's wealth.

Also, food stamps and free childcare don't lift people out of poverty. Newsflash: POOR PEOPLE RECEIVE GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE. The economic situation of these people doesn't change upon receiving government assistance.

This is unlikely to happen.

This is precisely what is wrong with society. "should have gotten a better job". How exactly is this possible? Most impoverished areas have poor school systems that don't adequately prepare students for college. Most impoverished areas aren't able to even effectively teach sex education to their children. Plenty of bright children are held back by the poor education systems in their area. Plenty of bright children are held back by their parent's mistakes. How does one get a "better job" when they don't even have the proper tools to enter college? It is not the fault of the children.

inb4 parents should have moved. How? They can't afford it.
inb4 child should have known better. How? Their peers are interested in crime, and so are the parents. Peers are a very important agent of socialization.
inb4 he should have gotten a better job by working harder. Plenty of life constraints prevent people from taking on higher positions. And hard work does not always equal success.
