We've got people in this thread who drink alcohol, do drugs and eat ass criticising a parent for letting her child have a cherry soda.
Do you really think I happened upon the one special occasion where this mom decided to celebrate her kid and give him a cup of soda as well as a milkshake? It's routine for them

There is no reason to give a 2 year old soda, it's not like he wore her down by constantly begging for it, she could have given him water and he wouldn't have even known soda existed

I don't even mind if you give your 10 year old soda, at least he has some idea what's going on, but a fricken 2 year old? He should be drinking water or baby formula
I don't think anyone here is disagreeing that giving a 2 year old soda is a good idea.

It's not about the single drink. This impressionable 2 year old will grow up think soda is ok

Ok that's a good point. Moderation is ok as long as that's understood. Just feels like a 2 year old who has no idea what's going on is in such an early stage of development that any kind of toxin could become disastrous to their overall growth. Just feels like a 2 year old drinking soda is insane whereas a 7 year old eating a few pieces of candy and being told this shouldn't be an everyday thing is old enough to understand this is a different situation

im still not seeing how sugar is a toxin to a 2 year
How about a 5 yr old going trick or treating?

As a parent, it's my job to moderate their diets
My kids ask if they have can a snack or a soda, we limit them
But I'm not going to restrict certain foods because of an age

And I see the parents that don't moderate, those that have obese kids in elementary and I blame the parents, not the sugar

I wouldn't let my kids drink soda at that age. But I wouldn't call someone out on it either. It would have to be something far worse to get me to go up and say something. Besides maybe the kid is underweight or something and needs to add calories to his diet? Maybe he is lactose intolerant and there wasn't any other options that the kid would drink. You just can never know the circumstances from observing them for 3 minutes.

Ok, I guess I'm starting to realize it doesn't matter, as insane as that seems. It's just that soda is clearly bad for anyone of any age so why risk giving it to your 2 year old? Wouldn't it be better to just give them water or whatever instead of encouraging bad habits and rolling the dice that they'll decide to quit when they're 7 or whenever (which they won't)? Would anyone want their child to be a life-long soda drinker? You're only encouraging that by giving it to them at the age of 2

ITT carbonated beverages are inherently evil.

BRB let's not teach our kids moderation, but instead outright prohibit them from drinking a normal beverage.

The problem is your focusing on the things in life that don't really matter. When I was a kid I had hopes and dreams. We all did. But over time, the daily grind gets in the way and you miss the things that really matter, even though they are right in front of you, staring you in the face. I think the next time you should ask yourself "Am I on the right track here?". I don't mean to be rude but people like you I really pity. So maybe you could use the few brain cells you have and take advantage of the knowledge I have given you now. Good luck.

What benefit does it offer a 2 year old besides taste that he doesn't even realize is a thing?

do you think I am arguing that it's ok to constantly feed my kids soda all day long vs a once a week visit to McDonald's to play with other kids on the playground while eating a burger and drinking a coke?
Bad for anyone at any age? Most all carbs you eat will break down to sugar, are you making sure your kids go no carb?

You really don't have any confidence in the kid, as a parent, teach moderation and they learn moderation
A coke at 3-5 years old once a week doesn't lead to a life long "crack like" type of addiction

Giving parenting advice when you're not even a parent. I'm glad you didn't say anything. And no, that's not abuse. Come on bro, when you call that sh|t abuse then so is taking the kid to the dentist. Except he enjoys one. Plus sprite has no caffeine, not much different from phucking other sugary ass drinks that are socially acceptable. Would I give my 3 year old sprite and a milkshake? Probably not, but he's not even born yet. Just mind your own business bro

Sugar and sodium are needed for bodily processes. Without either you die. BTW, anything that's carbonated is a soda, there are sodas without caffeine, there are sodas without sugar, and there are sodas without sodium.

It is child abuse. Thats why so many people today are addicted to soda.
Give a child clean food and water when he grows up and that is what he will find tasty.
Lmao @ anyone defending the mum here. Its not like the kid will enjoy it as a "treat" either. At that age they arent exposed to all the bs so they will be happy if they just have some food. Me and my cousins drank soda a lot as kids and we are all fine now but if you get started that young its very easy to get hooked on.

I'm not a scientist and as I admitted I don't have kids. I simply assumed that at such an early stage of life (2 years old) children are at at such a crucial stage of development, that things that are ok to give adults could be disastrous to give to children. I see now that I was wrong about that

I still don't see what the benefits are to feed a 2 year old soda but accept that maybe there isn't a downside. For anyone concerned, it doesn't look like I'll have kids anytime soon other than by mistake and already admitted I didn't speak to the woman I came across today, I was just looking for other opinions and I guess I'm in the minority and that my assumption is wrong. I still don't see what the problem is to just give them water until they're old enough to realize there are other options, but if giving a 2 year old soda in moderation is the same as giving an adult soda in moderation then fair enough

We can get glucose from healthy fats and protein. Much better than getting it from soda. Saying your body "needs sugar" is one of the stupidest things I've read on this forum.

Let's see;

From WebMD

What is glucose?

Glucose comes from the Greek word for "sweet."It's a type of sugaryou get from foods you eat, and your body uses it for energy.

im not even arguing 2 years old here, I honestly don't remember what I gave my kids at 2, but the op asked at what age
I do remember taking my 2-3 year olds trick or treating and letting them have a couple pieces of candy(not the whole bag or at will, anytime)
But my kids know that drinking sodas all day will make you fat and my daughters flat out avoid it

I'm going back to being a good parent, teach them about diet, money, etc
So they don't end up broke and obese like so many Americans

it always amazes me how people throw logic straight out the window when the discussion is about kids.
