No, I currently live downtown in aa major US city too. The whole argument is that a gun is just a thing to have like a smoke detector or a flashlight and shoes near your bed. I don't plan on ever using it - though shooting at the range is great fun.

It requires more than that in most states you have to fear for your safety or reasonably believe another crime is about to or has taken place.

I.e., the law in most states doesn't let you drill a little kid that accidentally went into your house and is calling out for its parents.

I also keep a backpack in my closet with some water and food couple air filter masks that sort of thing in case there was ever an emergency. I think that's just being smart.

The mass shootings are a thing - completely agree. Very weird and a sign of a lot of unhappy youth. American lethal violence in general though, if you factor out gangs isn't that much more than most developed countries. We just have a problem with areas that the state has effectively lofts its monopoly on violence.

anyways just researched it and the laws are completely different b/w USA and the rest of the world (or australia at least)

So if you shot and killed an intruder in oz, be prepared to face a potential murder or manslaughter charge mane (unless self defense)

In Australia if someone breaks in by say falling through the roof and injures himself on a bench or tv he is able to sue you lol.

You can also be sued under US tort law if someone hurts themselves on your property even if they did not have a right to be there.

They classify them differently than we do. There's far more burglaries in UK than USA.

America's gun violence is really centralized to a few areas in the country. Typically cities/states with the harshest gun restrictions are the most violent.

Countries you can own guns in Europe: Bosnia, Germany, Russia, Georgia, Serbia, Slovakia, Switzerland, Ukraine, Austria, Czech Republic.

You can get guns in most other parts of Europe too, if you have a hunting licence, or are part of a shooting club/sport.

It's in areas where the government has lost its monopoly on violence. There are neighborhoods where everyone knows who the killers are, but the murders almost always who unsolved. In such an environment even good kids and young men (almost all murder in the US is committed by men 15-35) have to resort to violence over trivial things.

Currently living in Europe. Thankful guns arent accessible. Dead Srs. Alot of the immigrants are hardoned by life situations out of the average person's comprhension. Brb walking down back streets and seeing dudes with zoro-esque scars across their face that dont look 6months old.

Thse are the type of guys who probably watched their mom and sisters be hung for some petty offense in their native Land. zro reasons to live and zro ****s to give. The last individuels on earth I would want access to gun.

That's the same everywhere in the world. I have friends who have been murdered, everyone knows who did it, common knowledge, but no one is willing to snitch. I'm in the UK.
