When I joined the gym I was not fat but was just a stick, and felt out of place.

OP, to answer your question, as a previous poster said, part of it has to do with the increasing "anti fat shaming/everybody is beautiful" fad that is going on, which can be annoying. Everyone is different and has different preferences. I would never put someone else down and tell them they are disgusting for being fat, but at the same time, I shouldn't get ridiculed and be accused of fat shaming because I am not attracted to obese women and it is a turn off for me.

Also, I think part of it is simply that some people do not prioritize fitness/losing weight. There are some people that would rather not care about their nutrition and eat all of the foods they like and enjoy without having to eat in moderation.

You said it in your opening post, it makes them feel better. Feeling better is a step towards self improvement. No one who is unmotivated is at the hairdressers, nail salon or dressed up the nines. If they have this level of self respect and care, then they have the potential to take it to the next level. I'd be more concerned (I wouldn't really because it's none of my business but for the sake of this thread) with those who look like a sack of unwashed potatos because they seem to have given up but then again no one really knows what's going on under the surface of anyone. Could have already lost 100lbs for all we know.

While I agree with you, I sort of disagree at the same time. There are some fat girls who work in my building that have bling and dress fancy, but it's clear they have no intention to ever lose weight (and im talking about obese girls, not thick or chubby).

I think these women simply want to look the best while having to put in the least amount of work.
