Even my flight attendant gf with no degree is making close to $40k which is well beyond these figures. Our generation can be kind of pathetic, actually.

Millenials were cucked into believing they need a college degree to earn decent money and be successful. The generations before them just busted their azzes at work for 25+ years before they started to make it.


Assuming you start working at 18, and your still working at the same trade/job in your 40-50's. You should be advanced by that time. Especially if your working hard and are trying to advance your career. People going into debt and not hitting the work force until they are 25+ and expecting to be 'making it' before they are 30-35 are living under a delusion. Unless you are medical/STEM GL with that.

But what did he do right out of college?

I'm not going to typecast people based on my own anecdotal experiences, but I've seen millennials come out of college with too much pride to accept a position that paid less than 50% what they were expecting. Obviously not everyone does this but some really feel that entitled.

I came out with a stem degree in 2010 and had to settle for a $40k cust rep job that was chit compared to what my major was making just a few years before that. I had to do what I had to do and now I'm about where I should be. I can easily see some entitled pricks thinking they are too good for that and thus missing out on the opportunity to grow.

The mystical "generations before us" you and others like you refer to didn't need college degrees because there was afar lower supplyof college graduates than today, meaning employers were forced to hire non-college graduates.

I pay $50/mo for my phone which is pretty normal and a lot of jobs have integrated smartphones into the workplace so they're pretty much a necessity

Truth

Back in the day if you didn't have a degree you could still start at the bottom working in the mailroom or as an intern. Now if you want a bottom-of-the-barrel position at a decent company you'll be competing against 100 other people with college degrees. And if you don't have one, good luck impressing someone with your work ethic alone. Competition is much higher today than anything the Boomers ever had.

This is 100% false the most successful people my age that I know didn' t go to college, I am a project manager for an architectural firm, and recently launched my own design company on the side (trade school), my best friend owns a VR augmented reality company (hs dropout), my next closest friend owns an ecommerce business and a hardware store (he barely graduated hs), two other very \close friends own general contracting businesses and neither of them went to college. The most sucessful college educated person I am friends with is a district manager for a nursing home company. Of the careers I listed which one sounds like the least rewarding?

I know dozens of dropouts working at gas stations with wild dreams of becoming millionaires someday. Coincidentally, they too apparently have tons of billionaire dropout friends! I'm not 30 and between me and my wife we made a couple hundred grand last year. I'm not saying it as a brag because it's really not a lot of money but I could not imagine being able to live on 20-30 grand. I don't know how it's possible. We aren't saving tons of cash and we don't live crazy. Modest house, modest cars, etc.

Why vastly exaggerated? Yes I do believe so, my friends and myself are evidence of it. I have been asked to speak at my old high school on multiple occasions to let kids know there are alternative paths to white collar jobs. Brainwashed morons like you are my target audience, success is largely up to individuals. I have literally had Harvard educated interns at my architectural firm that are clueless, meanwhile we have had community college kids that are fukin rockstars.
