He said, "come at me". Granted, it could have been put better but this is the misc, and that is a generally acceptable way of saying, "tell me why you think I am wrong". Of course, the misc is largely made up of uber conservative Christians so those statements were bound to get people riled up and on the defensive no matter how he framed them.

I read through this link. Can't say it's too far off tbh. My anecdotal evidence still stands with the caveat of 'to each her/his own. It's sad that miskers will continue on with this attitude and never take a chance on the real happiness a family can bring. It's not for everyone and that's ok. FAs make the good dads look even better.

I agree. Mostly.

1. The nuclear family is dead. Yes. Mostly. Even though there are some families for whom this is not the truth, like the poster above, with the divorce rates as high as they are and getting higher still, I don't see how anyone can argue that the nuclear family isn't at the very least, on its way out.

2. Humans are not monogamous. Do you mean that we are not innately so? Even if that is true, our biological wiring shouldn't make a difference because we are thinking beings who can control our baser instincts. Monogamy is good for building healthy societies which is why people have been trying to uphold the value for so long.

I personally, am monogamous, and could never be in a relationship that was not. I would rather remain single. I know many many others like me too.

But, seeing as society as we know it is deteriorating, it looks like monogamy is another value on its way out.

3. Raising children is a chore. Agreed. Dwindling resources and inequality being at an all time high makes this an unfortunate fact. Those who can afford to feed and raise their kids with a good standard of living without breaking their backs are in the minority. Most people in the world can barely afford to feed themselves let alone raise another human being.

I could be in a committed relationship but agree with you. I would rather be single than in a false committment.


Obviously, honesty is most important. If you are in a commitment and have the self awareness to identify deviations, it needs to be acknowledged to yourself and your partner.

The commitment seems to be much easier than acknowledging deviation from the commitment.


I think if the acknowledgment happened much earlier than normal (for example flirting at work instead of letting it continue to sex and emotional connection), relationships would be much more stable.
