You didn't really understand his thread now did you? Not to suck his Liverpool/Everton dick but he has a point.
I lease a car through my employer, paying only tax and any excess of the hire if its not already in a pool. Not too sure about paying x amount per month that many youngsters do these days but I get the MOT, tyres and any repair work done without me paying a thing.
A second hand or brand new car has a limited shelf life. It loses value as soon as you take it off the forecourt because they won't take it back as a sale and you can't stick it on Autotrade for max new price now can you?
Its a depreciating asset, unlike a house. It suffers wear and tear and unless you're strapped for cash you'd take the offer if you don't want to deal with the hassle. Your only probloem being is if you wreck the car, you're still paying for it until the cotnract is done and you need a car any way but you will eb charged for that. If you lose your lciense you're still going to pay for the lease.

Leasing is a **** deal in the UK. Restrictive mileages, penalties if you damage the car in any way (you fault or otherwise), and you cannot "just give it back" as his thread suggests, there is always a fee to pay to release yourself from the 3-4 year contract.

The total depreciation after 15 years has averaged around 600 a year and it's been super reliable, still on its original battery, paintwork good as new. No reason to change it at all. Could even be a future classic..

2. The car is a Ford Ka. I've posted a pic of it on here before. It's red and doesn't even have electric windows. The deposit was a lump of trash MOT failure I'd bought on a whim for £500 6 months before the purchase. The initial 2 year repayments come to around £83 per month or so. I'd priced the monthly savers bus ticket to work and that came to about £90, but that was restricted to seriously limited areas (not that I'd go anywhere on a bus, this was just a costing exercise).
Of course when you factor in the low insurance and petrol costs for such a small commuter, the monthly payment probably comes to an equivalent of £130 or so. But I'm prepared to pay the £40 difference not to catch public transport and sit next to smelly twats like you. I'm a baller like that.
3. Nope - the main point of the argument is actually about convenience more than cost. Even if in this day and age you can fix a car yourself, that's hours of your life taking skin off your knuckles that you'll never get back. My main argument is that cars (unless you are an enthusiast) should be treated as a disposable commodity.
4. LOL @ you spending capital on a brand new Mini and being happy to be seen in it. At least my car is used for short commutes ONLY (9 miles each way) and it's to a Town where I don't know anyone so don't care if I get seen in it.
