Mattresses are a scam, and a huge waste of space in your home.

If you aren't sleeping in your bath tub, you are wasting time, money, and space. Hell, you don't even need to get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

OP are you retarded? Almost every product you buy cost a small fraction of what it sells for, yet for some reason everything cost 100X what it "cost" to make.

Instead of whining, why don't you start your own mattress factory? Sell the matresses for $100 each, you'll blow away the competition and still make $95 profit per matres.

I'm sure those at the top of the mattress ladder would take me out before I even linked up my first spring. There are six-hundred mattress companies in the US. There's a reason why they all play by the same rules.

It matters crucially to people with bad backs.

For the majority of us with our spines where they should be you can get away with a chitty mattress.

Ive been sleeping in my brothers $3k memory foam mattress for the last 2 weeks and its comfy as fuk

considering you spend 6-8h in it a day its not a bad investment to get a good quality one (from an approved chiro)

Jesse, even if the mattress was badly soiled, that doesn't negate the fact there there aren't any materials in a mattress worth salvaging. Not even for scrap. Also understand that a mattress with three months of use is worth the exact same as a mattress with thirty years of use. Nothing. Not worth a dime. It's all worthless outside of the manipulated mattress market.

Listen guy, when there's big money being made, anyone who attempts to interfere can very easily lose their life. Doesn't matter if it's drugs, diamonds, mattresses or girl scout cookies. Big money is big money.

Nearly ever product is a scam, most are also designed to fail after a certain period because they want to you re-buy. Computer component gone? Well none of your components are dated to use your mobo, your computers now worth like $100 and fixing it costs more so you buy a new computer. Washers, dryers, T.V, they could design them to last a lot longer. Sometimes you get something that lasts for eternity like this mouse I am using is defying all odds. Also, while people need margins and profit, a lot of the services are over-inflated and a sca,. mechanic industry you name it, because most humans now rely on everyone else for even trivial skills that EVERYONE should know. The amount of money people could save just by have a basic skill-set you can learn from even youtube, though sometimes there's an annoying task that you could do but CBF'd because it's finicky, so you end up paying.

Also people know how simple some products are, but the masses don't want to go to their shed and make it, so they will buy it. Even if it's a piece of string through a can, people will buy it instead of making it.

Interesting topic and theory. I am sure mattresses have a fairly high markup, maybe similar to appliances. But capitalism sets a fair price in an open market. I don't think starting a mattress production is on the high end of barriers to entry. It is a product that probably takes specialized heavy equipment, requires basic but highly refined raw materials. Shipping and holding costs are also high.

So I don't believe in some massive mattress industry conspiracy on price fixing. Marketing? I am definitely open to the idea mattresses are not needed for healthy lifestyle, maybe they are even a determinant.

No one buys used mattresses for the same reason no one buys used toothbrushes, used underwear, or used dentures. It's gross.

People sleep in a mattress 8-10 hours a day. Normally naked, farting, sweating, and mouth breathing. There might actually be 2 or more humans in there on a regular basis. People literally piss and chit the bed on the reg. Over time the mattress will gain wait due to sebum, skin, dust mites, and the chit from dust mites. srs
