FFXI, Final Fantasy Online. Completely ruined my last 2 years of high school, made me drop out before senior year, take my ged, go to college, drop out of college, join the army, then retire.

Lol I know a few dudes who were horribly addicted to that game. It seemed worse than a WOW addiction. Never played that one though.

Only one that I spent excessive amount of time on was Age of Empires 1. Playing that **** online with the pop 200 change just caused me to waste days in front of the screen.

Over the years, some have come close: Final Fantasy 7/8/9/10 (lettuce beef cereal though, those games are designed to take a while), then Skyrim and the CoD 4 online play.

Probably runescape but there was this old game called Tradewinds that I was also addicted to. Not sure which was first. Tradewinds was an awesome game though from what I remember.

Super Mario Brother's 3. Yeah I'm old. Anyways, I don't think there was ever as much anticipation for a video game coming out ever. Back then, NES was about the only platform decent. There was a movie where it was introduced (Wizzard) and then about a couple months later it came out. COD wasn't near the hype. It was on the news, everyone was talking about it. The whole front of Target was covered in SMB3 stuff. Nintendo was smart, they made sure there were plenty so there was no price gouging or people buying them up to sell them on the side.

Maybe Dragon Warrior on NES (dragon quest I)

Played the hell out of FFVII (was my first FF like for so many others). Ended up emulating the earlier FF's during middleschool and played the chit out of all of them.

Of all time though I would say Diablo 2 LOD was the most addicting for me.
Came into say Dragon Warrior. I was obsessed with that and the OG Zelda.

I had an Odyssey when I was a kid; beat that. I was envious of Ricky Stratton and his numerous arcade games...ever hear of Stacade? Favorite show ever. I digress...

Muds, that was my downfall. Multiplayer rpgs. Freshman year of college, I became a mud master, and failed out my sophomore year. Literally 20 hours a day in the lab. No joke. 20+ years later, I wonder wtf was wrong with me, then fire up the old telnet session and login once again. Drug addiction is real.

CS 1.6 and Diablo 2...no time in life is comparable...

another thing reminds me of them golden eye, mario kart, starfox, etc. for n64, those days were pretty nostalgic more than an addiction
