Off the top of my head:

2001 Space Odyssey - Was just bored out of my mind, didn't even finish it.

The French Connection - Movie did not age well at all.
Death is impossible for us to fathom: it is so immense, so frightening, that we will do almost anything to avoid thinking about it. Society is organized to make death invisible, to keep it several steps removed. That distance may seem necessary for our comfort, but it comes with a terrible price: the illusion of limitless time, and a consequent lack of seriousness about daily life. We are running away from the one reality that faces us all.

Tempted to neg for West Side Story. It's got music, dancing, a great story line for the events of the time, and a classic retelling of Romeo and Juliet.

I feel as though some people are confusing "classic" with "overrated." Or, perhaps it's just me having trouble differentiating the two.

For example, I find a movie like "Citizen Kane" highly overrated but I understand and consider it a classic for what it did and represented at the time. I don't know, I'm a rather dumb person lmao.

Anyway, my list:

1. Pulp Fiction
2. Godfather movies
3. Apocalypse Now
4. 2001 Space Odyssey
5. Shawshank Redemption

agree with everything here.

I reluctantly agree with pulp fiction because I loved it for so long when it was a fresh movie, but we have become desensitized to these movies now and they don't hold the same effect they did for the decade following their release.
Just like 2001 a space odyssey, it was a classic for so long because of its special effects and overall uniqueness but NOW, it is **** special effects and a storyline that has become very very boring in comparison to the last 20 years of film.
With fight club the whole "im an antisocial protagonist who wants to fight the system and I am actually a badass but no one in society knows it" is played out over and over and over and its lost its appeal. But bringing yourself back to that time and the creativeness of the director and the acting and the storyline for the time, its great.

Anyway I am REALLY going to stick my neck out but Shawshank redemption has always been my most overrated classic movie I thought was "meh" to "**** waste of time"

The storyline is literally a guy is wrongfully imprisoned, he meets a wise old black man with a fatherly voice, he breaks out of prison, some old man kills himself, the main character and the wise old black man(Samuel l Jackson) live happily every after and free.

Why that 1 sentence needed to be drug on into 2.5 hours of film is beyond me and why everyone thinks its the greatest most original story ever is even more perplexing.

I think Christopher Nolan films, in general, suck pretty bad. There is no life to any of them, they're dull and empty. It's a complete chore to sit through them. And his sh!tty Batman movies helped blast open the doors to constant, never-ending superhero sh!t.

The Matrix movies are pretty mediocre. They should have kept it to one film, the sequels actually ruined the first one, which itself was pretty overrated.

Taxi driver
I get the premise of how the movie was supposed to depict society/life at that time but couldnt help but fell underwhelmed by it all, especially with all the high ratings its got.
I mean 99% on rotten tomatoes, its really a perfect movie?
