I'm 33 and just passed 100 large in my 401k. Doesn't feel like chit since I will probably die before spending it.
do not read my posts and weep, i am not there i do not sleep
i am the thousand greens that rep, i am the ban bet dutifully kept
of memes and trolls in toasted breads, i am not there, i am not dead.

FYI the average for the US is to have negative savings. Meaning you are more in debt than you have actual money, so if you have literally ANYTHING saved, you are ahead of the curve.
That said Im now 35 and have about $220k invested in various places and about $200k in equity in my house. Add in the $210k I owe on the house and $14k I owe on the car and Im doing pretty good.

could be doing better but could be doing a lot worse. 401k @10% with company matching 4% (50% of 8 to be technical) + maxing out roth every year for the last 4 years + 20% equity in my home. Considering most of the people my age have <$1,000 to their name I think I'm doing ok.
hard to hate on a fellow wings fan but....
i need to cut... badly.

my auto loan has about 6k more to pay off
but currently about 22k savings, 8k checkings (but rent will be withdrawn tomorrow, so honestly closer to 6.7k)
no idea how that categorizes for a 25 year old. probably better than most because i have zero school loans. i make about 62k/yr before taxes.

After reading this thread, I'm in the feels-average-crew now.
75k in 401k and another 15k in stocks since our firm started down the ESOP path. Single income family of four for a couple more years then we gotta get serious when the kids are in school full time.

I have 30k in investments and about 115k in the bank.
Money stuck in the bank is dead money, so i will be moving it soon enough.

Think I have 85k in 401k, did company match for the 3% extra then another 3 from me. Our company has been doing an additional 1% per year to our 401k from our pay til 10% to help people save who don't have money elsewhere. Figured meh, it comes off the yearly raise so go for it.
Started an IRA this year which was a big goal, maxed out for 16 and 17 due to timing. Had 30k in savings but just bought property so most went to down payment (25k). Property appraised for 189k (don't believe it) and bought for 75k. Don't factor money in checking but a few k there. Have cash buried in middle of nowhere, about 5k. I've also been contributing to an HS A, which will be great for retirement, don't know what I do each pay though. My home has 75k+ in equity.
Do have debt, but return on market is greater than interest so makes more sense to put extra funds towards growth. Money is a bit tight right now while funds recover from land purchase, so I'll be pretty mindful for a while.
Main thing is start saving regard less of where you are. Put stuff away in a logical growth area and forget about it. There are younger guys here with more than me, I say congrats. Everyone should plan for the future, just don't forget to enjoy the present.

I'm 22 and have around $2100 saved up from working two jobs from 2016. I'm taking a break because I don't want to work for a while and play all my video games I bought over last year. Also, wtf is the whole point of this thread? Measure dink sizes? 78% of working Americans are living paycheck-to-paycheck and the income inequality in the US is rising towards pre-world war I era.
