Never tried Eagle Rare, but now I gotta hunt for a bottle. Buffalo Trace is nice too, not sure how I forgot because that's always on rotation.

Been thinking about trying some, in the liquor store over lunch they had several different bottles, one was Grand something, If I am recalling correctly, something like $300.

Walked out with these two instead.

Got a big bottle of Johnnie Walker black label that is my go to. Not high end, but I like it. Got the round ice cube maker too.

As far as a regular "go to" its usually Turkey 101, Four Roses or Weller Special Reserve if I can find it...I admittedly really like Bulleit but its some corporate bullchit so I dont buy it anymore

Definitely check it out. I'm just talking chit with BuildUpNow, b/c he's absolutely right - there are some bottles out there that drink like something from a whole shelf higher, just because people don't really know about it so they can't jack the prices like Maker's Mark etc. I think Pappy Van Winkle was AWESOME stuff back when you could get it for normal prices, now it's so hyped that they charge insane prices for it and people still pay. Not worth it anymore IMO.

Scotch is an acquired taste too - I was always on the fence about it then I took a trip to Scotland with two of my friends, we tried from all over the countryside. There are plenty that are mild, almost like an Irish, all the way up to the big peat monsters people think of as "Scotch". Check out a Speyside Scotch (group of distilleries along the river Spey, all smooth and drinkable) such as Glenfiddich sometime, tasty stuff.

Just left my local spot. Decided to stop in and try to sweet talk the owner into ordering me a (personal) bottle of Eagle Rare on his next order - he wasn't having any of it

Had a quick glass, snapped a couple pics.

I did my bachelor party on the Bourbon Trail, we had an absolute blast. We flew into Louisville and hit the Old Seelbach for Old Fashioned then went to Bluegrass Brewing then dinner at Proof on Main. Great night out.

Weller would be a SCREAMING deal at twice the price, so damn tasty and cheap for what you get. If you want a good wheated Bourbon but don't want to pay for Pappy hype prices, Weller is where it's at.

Can hardly ever find it here in Florida now, I'm worried word got out.

I rarely drink scotch anymore because the prices have gone high here in WA plus, most scotch is hit or miss.

I'm happy to see this thread, I love talking booze. If anyone is interested, I've got a open ******** group going as well called "The Whisky Buzz"

I'm a huge fan of US whiskies which comprises the bulk of my booze bunker but love to talk and try anything from all over the world.

Saw some Pig in the store today, $100 and $112, sounds like a relatively new distillery up in Vermont I think? I'm doing alot of testing in the 50-70 dollar range right now.

Whistle Pig is in VT but is sourcing almost all of their spirits from Canada at this point. There was a bit of controversy about the company a while back but it seems like they are moving in the right direction.

I think Larceny is a good next step for you. It's readily available, priced $26-28 bucks, and has a real enjoyable taste to it. I don't have all the adjectives the veterans have to describe it, but there's a lot going on with the flavor to keep it interesting. Check out some of these reviews:

Woodford Reserve is outstanding. Bought the PVW 23 when it was only $250. Still have the bottle. Unbelievably good.

Which bulleit? They have bourbon and a rye right? I don’t really like bulleit (the bourbon, and think it’s too spicy) and think woodfords is too bland (only getting the taste from the barrel and not much from the mash). I’d put them at opposite ends of a spectrum so not sure what to recommend other than my favourite, which I think sits in the middle of the two... eagle rare 10.
But if you drink woodford neat I think you’d like Irish whiskeys too (typically have less mash flavour (all barley) but better finishing from their barrels). Jamesons is actually a good cheap whiskey (barley in used bourbon cask the finished in a sherry cask) and redbreast is a nice step up (personally love knappogue the most!in the cheaper price
range).
