I always ask the guy. Usually comes up a few dates in. Not that it matters much, since I haven't met a guy that admit to sleeping with more than 10 women. But if it's a lot north of that, I'm very unlikely to continue dating you. Repeatedly unsuccessful relationships for me are indicators of personality traits that I don't want.

I actually read people pretty well. I'm sure one lied to me and I knew at the time but didn't trust my instincts (turned out to be married and a huge man sloot). But for the most part, people have been pretty honest. Don't get me wrong, I don't just get up and leave if you've been in 25 women. Usually other issues come up that cause me to stop dating them. I do judge if they're a man sloot though, so not sure if they weren't a man sloot I'd tolerate said issues more.... Egg or chicken?

Also, like minded people gravitate towards each other. I'm a serially monogamous person. Always in a relationship. Men I've dated are mostly the same, one long relationship after another.
