My lifts are down considerably due to recovering from a serious injury that happened outside the gym, but before that I would rep 245x8. No bounce, no bullchit. Clean reps. It's not super impressive, but I rarely saw anyone else do it. However, usually when I did see it, it was a lot more than I could do. Usually 325 to 350.

I'll get back there. I tested myself today and got 225 for 5 and I've only been back at it 10 weeks. Not to mention I'm cutting my rot off. Also - old.

My first time benching@14, I was doing 115 for 6. Within 6 weeks my Max had improved to 185.

Friends didn't believe me even though I did it in front of my gym teacher as part of our assessment. Was hitting 225 within months.

I had to stop due to AC joint injury. A lot of the bigger guys at my gym don’t even use the bench press. Other than that, I’ve only seen a couple go above 185.

Seems like every other skinny guy is benching 225 and deadlifting 4 plates. Honestly you don't have to look like you lift to have decent strength at either exercise, as evidenced by 150 lbers consistently pulling those lifts. Squat on the other hand, rarely see anyone squat , let alone full squat, or anything above 225

my usual flat bench looks like

225x8, 245x6,295x1-3 - i rep the first two sets out pretty easily and then take that jump anywhere from 275-295 depending on how lazy ive been. I think after a period of time just being able to do a certain weight, with minimum maintenance its not too hard to keep it.

trying to get 315. but it is interesting to see people act impressed when they see me put up 295. i only weigh 180

I've been to many gyms and without fail I would see 225 being put up but with **** form.

If you want to stand out, train towards 225 onincline and use good form. I always look and watch someone that does it, so there you go.

But what kind of arch are they using? Every female powerlifter I've ever seen that moves weight gets in some crazy positions. See below, I'd be far more impressed with a woman that benches 135 with a small arch then a woman that benches 225 with a massive arch.

Not a single person in my gym benches 225+.

It’s a home gym.

Ok it’s just a treadmill.

It’s a couch.

Very rare to see someone doing it

I see people lifting all the time and they seem dedicated, but no gains?

They don't have very big of an arch to be honest. I have a moderate arch and theirs is less than mine. They all weigh a little more than me but not much. IMO that girl's position doesn't look strong at all she is getting absolutely no leg drive from that.

ugh.. here we fking goooo...

I know women that bench that too. It has nothing to do with arch. If you think you can magically bench 50lbs more with an arch go ahead and be my guest... hint: you can't. It's about optimal positioning to recruit as many muscles as possible. If I could arch like that and bench a ton more, I would. That's just not how it works.

I am also willing to bet those 225lb female "arch" benchers could lay flat on the bench and larsen press 135 for reps. Most played out discussion there is... aside from maybe comparing geared pl squats to high bar olympic squats.

When I used to be a bench****, I could bang out 225 x 10 and 1rm @ 285.

I don’t even lift imo

That being said, I gym at a place like the Y and no one even lifts pretty much.

Squat.. Very rare. Hardly anyone squats at my campus gym.

Add 10 lbs for 2nd set.

And another 10 lbs for the 3rd so 245 lbs total.

I use to go to a really good commercial gym and i would honestly say only 5% of males could bench over 2 plates with decent from. Deadlift 3+ plates with decent form. Squat 2 1/2+ plates with decent form.
A lot of good lifters but over shadowed by the tons of casuals.

I have 2 gym memberships, one at Anytime Fitness and the other at 24.

I’m pretty sure I’m the only one who benches 2 plates at the Anytime I go to. At the 24 hour fitness, there’s probably 100 people who can at LEAST bench 225

I lift in a college gym, today I had the misfortune of training next to an 18 year old, 190lb Freshman who I watched compete in Albany last week. He got like 1450 at the meet with a650 deadliftand today he was repping 275 to my measly 260.

To answer the OP though, I'm seeing a lot more DYEL guys putting up 225 bench for reps no spotter, and squatting 3 wheels for reps without breaking a sweat between staring at their phone sessions.

There's really only a handful of people I've noticed who put up 225 for reps. My normal routine is 225x8-10, then 245x4-6, then 275-285x1-3.

I've only ever seen maybe 3-4 guys who have put up 275+ and we kind of all know each other and will give each other spots since we seem to come in on the same days. everyone who does is a manlet who looks like they're a powerlifter. I'm always surprised when I see jacked dudes and they are struggling with 225 tho.

Height plays a pretty important role too. I'm only 6', but I have relatively long arms/torso and slightly shorter legs. I don't arch my back at all when benching and the ROM feels like miles.
