None of those things matter. They are happy that they are healthy, able to work, and not suffer from addictions or mental health issues. Now, if they have friends and family, even better.
Why didn't my grandparents off themselves? They were living in one room eight people when my grandfather came from the war before he built their house. Nobody had anything.
So, I guess if the fat, ugly, loser is surrounded by successful and beautiful people s/he might start comparing and feel less. If your whole family and friends are the same, who cares?
I feel so sad for people who feel like OP, though. It's so sad to think people being shallow and materialistic, must feel really empty on the inside.

You watch prison videos to make yourself realize how lucky you are. Then, when your life gets so bad you're actually jealous of some of the guys in prison, you watch videos of ethiopians starving to death and being consumed by flies as you eat your m&m's. Then, you think that nothing really matters because life is just a short vapor, you're here and gone in seconds. Plus, you can still go on cool vacations. I once took a greyhound bus ride to six flags and played rock scissors paper with some kids. Good times. Roller coasters are sweet.

a few years ago, one of my high school friends' invited me to a bbq he was having. he recently got married, and became a father too. however, he works 2 jobs. both of them are entry level jobs, working minimum wage, one as full time, the other part time. he works A LOT. warehouse type stuff. but that weekend he was off from both jobs, and i honestly had a great time at the bbq. great family, very friendly and hospitable. must have been around 10-15 of his close friends/family. everyone was just down to earth, and happy.
yes, my high school friend is fat too. not sure if he's broke or not. but he's definitely pay check to pay check. but your idea of people like him being depressed...it's not reality at all.
