Not going into the activities of what they did but what the Germans and Japs did do was advance medical knowledge which we use to this day. What the Japanese did was horrific and they were never punished for the experiments on Chinese citizens and POWs.

That said, most animals don't always go so far as to kill when in a fight, largely because that kind of aggression is a waste of energy and can also be a risk as that also involves putting themselves in harm's way. Us, on the other hand, have been able to create weapons that make killing easier and more risk-free. We're not really more violent than other species. It's just that we have the technology and intelligence to make it easier, and hence there's less reason not to do it.
