Not a big fan of sugar anyway tbh, at least aside from gatorade pre-workout and simple sugars post workout. Always feel like horse chit an hour or so after a meal where I consume mainly sugar.

CAN SOMEONE TELL ME HOW TO AVOID SUGAR?
Fruits has sugar...
Milk has sugar...
I can stay away from most sugary things if I tried but fruit and sugar? No way!

I was borderline diabetic and waaaaaaay fater than I am now, did keto for a couple months and my glucose levels just dropped, my blood pressure dropped, my cholesterol dropped BUT still when the Doc asked me what I was doing he told me that eating too much fat and protrein was unhealthy that I needed carbs (grains, bread, cereals) in my diet to be balanced (u wot m8?) So I agreed and just continued with keto and didn't tell him. Also aside from the weightloss and glucose and BP normalizing, my skin cleared up.

I'm not big on candy, cakes, or sugary foods, but Cokes have been one of the hardest things I've ever tried to quit - topping nicotine, illicit drugs (back in the day), etc.

seen this earlier. apparently if you eat a diet rich in sugar you can expect to live no longer than 110 years old. pretty sad to be honest.

I work with food manufacturers and my bro in law is an FDA consultation for a large grain producer; we are pigs in the US and it’ll never change.
4% of the population care about this chit and the rest are indifferent or don’t care at all. General Mills took feedback from a few customers that they wanted “more organic, natural components so they changed their formula for Trix cereal. It changed the flavor and color of the product and the sales plummeted in weeks...they switched it back to the processed, sugary chit and sales went right back to normal.
Food manufacturers give us what we want...not what “they cram down our throats”...it’s about education and personal choice and many don’t want to accept that.

But, the situation is similar with milk...galactose, or milk sugar, tends to be metabolized similarly to fructose in the body (is it’s dealt with in the liver), and unlessmassiveamounts are being consumed is not going to pose a risk.

If we avoided eating everything that's killing us we'd eventually starve anyway.

That's all BS, OP. Sugar is a fantastic source of energy, and it is ultimately exactly what our body needs to survive. Too much sugar can damage your teeth and cauase you to gain weight, but that's about it. The wrong kinds of sugar can be harmful in excess amounts, but sucrose can hardly be considered bad for you.

The World health organization recommends 25g, which is around 5% of your daily intake but in the US the USDA recommends that nearly 50% of your intake should be carbs (counting in veggies, grains, fruits, and bread) if you follow WHOs guideline you are only able to eat one measured serving of cereal with milk per day to meet your sugar intake). Everything in a shelf has added sugars, hidden sugars, and like they posted above they go by many different names.

Check out Alan Aragon's rebuttal. Basically, yes, fructose is bad in large quantities. However, it really isn't that big of a deal. Sugar is not killing you. It is a valuable source of energy keeping you alive. You can be healthy on a higher fat or higher carb diet. It's more about avoiding foods with harmful additives and eating foods rich in micronutrients. Even our beloved protein can be very harmful if consumed in excess. Avoiding obesity mainly comes down to rationing the macronutrients appropriately.
People act like sugar is poison. It is literally food that helps you make the ATP you need.
Also fyi, carbs don't get significantly turned to fat. De novo lipogenesis rates are very low even with overfeeding. The fat you eat is the fat you keep. The thing is if you eat too many carbs, your body will dump a lot of insulin and cause you to take up and store fat. You also won't be using that fat much because your body prefers carbs.
It is best to eat a relatively low carb diet, but load up on simple carbs shortly before and after serious workouts. Basically, give your body the fuel it needs when it needs it, but don't overdo it.

If you avoid sugar you're going to go into ketosis. The brain will switch from burning glucose to burning ketones from stored fat. Red blood cells always need glucose though, so your body will start breaking down muscle mass to convert into glucose to feed your blood cells. While in ketosis your body will produce more HGH though, so muscle muscle is minimized compared to fat loss, but you will still lose some muscle regardless.

Truth. Whats sad is its hard to find things without sugar added. My wife and I did the 10-day No sugar challenge to start the year and you really have to search for foods without sugar. Even simple things like bacon and lunch meats would have sugar added so we would have to watch the labels closely. It pretty much comes down to cooking your own food and getting your sugars from fruits and stuff.

I think I am cursed to live a long life no matter what I do. Might as well keep eating chocolate+peanutbutter ice-cream and all the other sugary stuff. Been doing it all my life. Not diabetic, not overweight, clear skin, lean and muscularly defined.
