Practice makes perfect. You have to put yourself out there. I find that if you initiate conversation, most of the time people just ramble on and you don't have to say much anyways, especially women.

Yeah be sure to quote me, or leave a link in my CP hehe ty men.

Also @ OP, maybe read how to win friends and influence people. Not exactly aimed at being shy, but gives you some pointers for things you should do and how to make people like you. Perhaps it'll give you confidence to get out there and talk to strangers knowing that there's a higher chance of them liking you.

Here you go, it's a TEDTalk - 17:30 is where it becomes relevant to "fake it till you become it."

Opie - watch this video - it's all about body language and the impression you're putting out there:

Thus unlamented let me die;

Sounds cliche but just keep working on it.

I'm in the same boat, I generally do ok in forced interactions, but it's hard to be interesting to a stranger.

I try smiling and saying hi to random people. Sometimes even try talking to a girl who you don't find very attractive just for practice and just see what kinds of things work. Just pretend all people are the same and talk to them like normal people, don't put them on a pedestol.

True for most people, minus the conclusion. Realize this and just talk chit like the others do.

When I try to socialize I usually get one phrase responses or one word answers, then I realize I'm making the other person uncomfortable and leave them alone.

The only people I feel comfortable talking to are childhood friends or guys who have autism, because either they tolerate my social awkwardness or are more honest with me in their interactions.

I was homeschooled for a time growing up and moved to three different countries, each having different social customs, cultures, etc. I'm embarrassed to admit it but most of my socializing growing up was done through Internet forums.

I often feel like I have nothing of worth to offer in a conversation so it makes me inhibited.

I have read the book "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie and while it has helped plenty I still feel like I'm missing something.

I'm at a loss of how to fix this problem. What do I do?
