I don't hate god at all bro. Can't hate something that doesn't exist. I hate the idea of a sequel to this movie since it is just a blatant cash grab. They are exploiting religious people to make a buck. Someone with respect for Jesus wouldn't use film to tell the story since it is an extremely cheap, low class type of entertainment. You can't do justice to that type of story in a fuking 2 or 3 hr movie. Also, if I were Christian, I'd want any type of production to be shown at church, not alongside regular films. It should be more like a play or opera...not a fuking movie.

Personally, Life Without God is Empty. Too many people think of salvation as dealing only with something that occurs after death. The Bible says that “whoever believes in the Son has eternal life” (John 3:36). Eternal life is a present possession that Jesus defined as… “And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent” (John 17:3O).

This is not just knowing about God, but knowing God in a relationship that begins the moment that we are born again as His child, and starts to grow as we spend time with Him in His Word. It’s there that He opens up new things about Himself through His Spirit (like with a friend does as we get to know each other). It continues to grow as we learn to trust Him in practical ways (see Matthew 6:25-33) . We can already be good friends with God before we go to be with Him in heaven.

Actually, statement 4 of the Athanasian Creed states "For there is one Person of the Father, another of the Son, another of the Holy Spirit." & James White's definition of the Trinity is "Within the one Being that is God, there exists eternally three coequal and coeternal persons, namely, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit." The Trinity is a Mystery for everyone, even Christians.

Look at Robin Williams, Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington. They had all the money one could want yet they all suffered from depression and other things. None of these people really knew Christ. Most people don't know their purpose in life so they begin to spiral into depression and drugs. Not everyone can handle life on their own.

You gotta have some kind of belief. I've seen some truly miraculous things from people turning their lives around after leading an awful life. Most people don't go to God until they've hit rock bottom and then they start to think of God. Some never do since they're so far into darkness they end up dying and the devil wins. Sucks man.

Hope is good but hope alone isn't enough.

So mental issues stem from not knowing Christ? And how does the devil win? If god is all powerful, can't he just snap his fingers and get rid of the devil?
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Ah yes I saw this coming a mile away.

God doesn't interfere with your life until you decide to bring Him into your life. The devil doesn't give a chit if you believe in him or not because he surely believes in you and how easily he can influence you with worldly crap all around us.

Inb4 why does God allow evil to happen when he's so powerful?

Evil doesn't come from God. God = love and if you don't know God then you don't know true love.

I'm sure the terrorist group ISIS are all unhappy people that hate God. Thus they do evil things.

I can go on and on about mental issues and why people are born with this or that but if you don't know God and the intricacies of the Bible then it'll just be words to you.

The story of satan always fascinated me.

Satan was lucifer an angel, God's most beautful creature/angel. The other angels admired his splendor he was that magnificant. Then he got jealous of God basically wanting to be him, or higher than him in Heaven. He conspired against him and convinced I think 1/3 of the angels to align with him and rebel. The war in heaven started, sadly it doesn't state which weapons were used in this war but the end was Lucifer now Satan and his army were cast out of Heaven. For now they're able to tempt people on Earth.

Without him, there's no darkness or sin in the world. God could have made him vanish or cast him to the lake of fire immediately and have everything on earth Good, righteous and pure. There'd be no evil then. So without that (evil) man could never freely and willingly choose God. If we were forced to do good and serve him all the time without the option to do the opposite, that'd basically make us robots I think.

Not preaching at all. Just the story of Satan/Lucifer/Evil/Demons (aka fallen angels) has always very much intrigued me.

P.S. I think Heaven, God, Hell, etc..is all speculative until we actually die FWIW.

Same here. I was always intrigued with how Satan reacted when he realized the plan. He thought he had Jesus right where he wanted and won. They had crucified him, and he assumed he was the winner- but then he found out that the plan by God was for Jesus to die, in order to SAVE us. So I always imagined what his actual reaction was to when he realized that. Obviously we know at that point he was hustling to roam the earth in order to get non believers to continue doubting it... but

It's like it's human nature that the evil men do intrigues us more than the good. Why people love history about Hitler, Stalin and George W. Bush more than they are Jesus.

Well yeah, and that's exactly why it's revealed that Lucifer was the most beautiful Angel. Hence why sin is so alluring and compelling.

All this sounds like a copout, I know I wouldn't allow my children to play in a pool full of alligators, metaphor for what god seems to be doing. Why does god allow evil to happen? Even to those who are believers? I can show you tons of examples of devout believers who have committed suicide because of depression. It's crazy how there seems to be no objective data about god and his workings, but a little pill will fix depression as long as you take it everyday. ISIS takes the word of their god, which is your god as well, they're the same guy, and they apply it literally. I'd venture to say they're more honest than you are, since you're here mincing words, and they follow the word blindly. Of course we can't know if your interpretation is the right one, or if theirs is, because you're just supposed to have faith. I wonder if you would buy a house on faith and feelings only.

All I have to say is this, if god is real, then he knows why I think the way I do, as he made me, I don't expect to be punished because I'm acting in the way I was programmed, just as anyone with common sense wouldn't expect a developer to punish a computer for acting as it was programmed. There is no way in hell that anyone programs something in a shytty manner and then blames that object.

I have no worries about going to heaven or hell, and I live a good life, I have money, a good family, I have everything I want. I am not depressed, and I am not trying to rebel. God as he's described in the bible just doesn't make any sense, it didn't make any sense when I was growing up a Catholic, still doesn't make sense now.

I know the kind of person I am, and I would never torture anyone for any length of time, regardless of their transgressions, apparently your god would, so which of us is more merciful and forgiving?

Seems like a round about way of getting nothing done, if he's making all the rules, why does he need to sacrifice himself to save us? What are we being saved from? He created everything, including hell, so he's sacrificing himself to himself in order to save us from himself. Why not just snap your fingers and fix all the fuk ups.

You are making god sound like a really bad developer. IE, he made us, fuked up, instead of fixing the core issues, he throws more crap on top to try and mitigate the issues, and he just makes things worse.

The Nephilim were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them.

I have read it, and it makes no sense, and that's the issue. Remember that next time you want to call someone a monkey, your position is nothing, out of thin air, so much so that you can't even defend it logically.

It's probably likely the way you are "programmed" is to follow a certain ethic. Namely, in the west, a Judeo-Christian ethic.

Seriously? If I set a trap that will crush my child, and they are caught in said trap and die, will that hold up in court? I didn't want to rob him of free will.

Be honest, does that sound ridiculous or not?
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Nah, you can be a good person without the bible. I was born and raised in the west, and none of this stuff makes sense to me, and I am, objectively a good person.

I never said you couldn't. I'm saying your definition of a good person is founded on the basis of the Judeo-Christian tradition. The west adopted this definition of a good person.

If you are open to it, do some research on things you might not understand. Even if you don't like the religious aspect, you can view them through a different lense. A psychological one. For that, search up Jordan Peterson's lectures on youtube. He disects the religious stories into a pyschological one without addressing the validity of these stories or not. It'll give you more understanding for sure.

so is this a thread about movies or about religion?

When I say I don't understand, I don't mean I can't comprehend, I do, it's just not logical. I even comprehend the notion of faith, but the issue is, may believers are hypocrites, faith is cool when talking about their religion, but they want hard proof, easily digestible too, when it comes to anything else. As such, I believe that religion also needs hard proof, if not objective quantifiable proof, at least logical, sound arguments that can stand on their own without having to preposition all kinds of things.

OP, I'm on spread. Not trying to hijack the thread, but this relates - just found out about the movie Samson coming out, looks like it has great potential.

Rutger Hauer and Billy Zane are in it, but it's done by an independent Christian studio, so hopefully it's biblically accurate and will help people see the big picture of a loving God who is just by nature and must judge, but shows His love to us in giving us a way of redemption (in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us).
