Something like that kind of happened to me. Saw some new guy at the gym for like a week and he kept staring at me. This was like 3 years back when I was lifting for strength and going heavy. He'd just be watching me. Struck me as a high school dropout weed smoking Mexican deadbeat.

Anyways towards the end of the week I was near him and asked him if he was using some dumbbells near him. He was like "No go ahead." But then as I picked them up he awkwardly stated "Why you work out so much? You gay or something? Huehuehuhue." Which I guess was his way of messing around trying to joke around with me. Problem is i don't know him like that and he's not my fukcing friend. With dudes im cool with I'd see them trying to joke around like that but not him. I just started at him, gave him a WTF look, and walked away. Never saw him much more again after that really.

I'd send a text back saying "Why are you calling me a bitch? Are you joking?" And depending on what he says there I'd get him alone and ask him why he thinks it's okay to call me bitch. I would assume #1 (always assume the best in others) but it could very well be #2. He is a young manager, he's an inexperienced manager, and he is trying to assert himself in role even though he's doing it very, very badly. Why pick on you? At a guess, because your brother in law used to do hold his position, so you get to be the target of his "there's a new sherrif in town" message.

This is bad management, but unfortunately it's classic bad management. The person who constantly needs to "prove" he is in control/above you, is saying a lot about how comfortable he is in role.
