There was a part where one of them was driving a car slowly for cover while another was shooting. Why did they not all get in and floor it? At least to see how far they got. Obviously I am not aware of the full context. When watching it I could not help but feel it may have been worth a shot.

Feel nothing when watching these videos.. Americans have done much worse to way more people (many civilians) and it's the soldier's choice to die for their government in places they're not welcome

Or were the soldiers unaware of how many enemies there were?
Or would the truck have been shredded before it got anywhere?

Yes, Americans have done worse. But generally speaking, the people America fight do much worse, intentionally.

Pretty sure the truck was already pretty shredded when it was (barely) moving.
Can't say for sure why they did/didn't do anything, but these guys were more highly trained than anyone else on this board and whatever they did was 2nd nature based on their training.

I've seen the sacrifices made first hand and I don't care what some old people think. I doubt any of the friends I lost cared either. You don't care what the government thinks of you. You care what your family, friends and peers think of you.
And it sounds cheesy because it's cliche now, but when you're in a firefight it's not risking your life for your country, you risk your life for your buddies, who are your new family. You know that if you die doing xyz, you will die protecting your new family, and your family back home would be proud of you and understand. It's for sure not for everyone, just trying to explain the mindset. These guys are not dumb guys being unknowingly used as pawns. They're smart men who volunteered and went through some of the hardest training in the world to be there.

I had absolutely zero intention to go to Afghanistan and help local Afghans. I went to fuk chit up. But once you get there and get these "help the locals" missions, it's like oh hey might as well give this my all, gonna be here anyways. About 50% of people end up thinking this even if they would rather fuk chit up. The other 40% or more still just want to fuk chit up but will pretend to want to help the locals because that's what the bosses there want. 10% of people are just dicks and will still be dicks no matter what.
You also live with at least some of the locals and contact them daily, so you get somewhat connected to them, even if it's mostly a "You're so dumb I hate you" relationship, you still realize they are people in need of help, and if you have any type of human feels you want to help them since you're in a position to.
Special Forces is entirely different because their entire mission statement involves around helping locals. Their whole mantra is "De oppresso liber" which means to free the oppressed. Their mission statement is literally to go to help the locals. This is what they train for. Yes they also do raids and all that movie stuff and train for that, but their primary mission is to assimilate with the local population and help them. It's a unique mission to Green Berets that SEALS/etc don't have.

While it is true that Governments around the world can and do invite third parties (international organizations or countries) to assist in local capability development (security or military), this case appears to be a bit more controversial.
http://time.com/5187330/niger-attack-probe-approval/Apparently the lack of approval meant that force generation (to respond to) risk assessment was heavily impaired. They had no real idea what they were going up against.
To others questioning whether or not those persons were 'welcome' - they clearly were, and were meant to and/or did meet Niger Government officials. It is par for the course these days for Governments in some places to appeal to other Governments for assistance of this kind. Anyone who works in this sector knows that.

You've completely gone unhinged over a red box in your CP. You can't let it go. Just imagine how unhinged you would become if you were up against overwhelming numbers and firepower like those SF guys were. But please... feel free to doubt me while continuing to peck at your keyboard from the safety of your home.

ITT people unaware reticules, enemy heartbeat and noise sensors aren't real life and no rules about numbers.
Guys were surrounded and the enemy had light, belt-fed machine guns along with dozens of bullets every second. Plus they were not going to leave a man behind and the vehicle would be a death trap if all 4 got inside and drove off.
The command in charge of these men fuked up and the French air support was not called in to cover them till later. Whoever arranged for these ill-equipped soldiers to go after an ISIS target after a routine patrol and did not give adequate air cover should be removed permanently and kicked out of the military.

Either troll or really, really stupid.. Either way my point isn't if you were actually in the army or not, that's irrelevant (think you're bullchitting though from the way you type) but that when someone posts a statement and you just reply with an insult saying you're gonna neg (this is what irony actually means btw) then you look like a retard.. But we're not going to get anywhere you're just going to repost the crying comment again so whatever man, at least I learned some good chit from the other dude who seemed to have actually been in the army..
