I actually own a gun. I was able to purchase a GLOCK. I even take it to a Gander Mountain. So OP may be onto something here and has a point. Go on.

OP if you want to start "controlling" other peoples guns.
how about you start off by going to a gun owners residence, and demand that they relinquish their arms. Take one small step at a time. and then report back.

I think the IQ test is flawed simply because most of these mass murderers would probably score higher than average
take the recent texas bomber, the guy knew how to construct and set off explosives. and the vegas guy was rich, successful and planned out that attack over several weeks. by those measures i'd say neither of those guys had a low IQ. people with low IQ lack that kind of structure in their lives
i'm also a believer that ignorance is bliss; on the higher extremes of IQ i'd bet a lot of those guys are miserable, depressed, and have antisocial tendencies

Not sold on the IQ thing. Simply because I doubt that having a higher IQ necessarily makes someone more likely to responsibly use their guns. Sure you'd be less likely to be a criminal but there are enough dumb but responsible Southern ****s and smart but sociopathic ****s to make such a restriction pointless.
The obvious one for me is mental health issues.Anyform of mental health issue, eg. Depression, Bipolar, PTSD, literally anything should be an immediate and permanent disqualification from owing firearms. That's just common sense but I guarantee you there are people out there disagreeing with it.

Minimum of 120 IQ to own gun - IQ has no correlation with behavior or values, stupid people can be morally righteous and geniuses can do horrible things. Also only about 10% of the population are eligible to own guns if this is the case, which completely removes the purpose of gun ownership.
Must be at least 25 y/o - Problem is we have 18 year olds who are able to enlist in the military and vote, how is this fair to them? And once again, why does age matter? You might argue people's brains are less developed, but in our culture there are dumbasses who have fully developed brains, and in contrast well disciplined children. The problem is raising your child to be an imbecile with a lack of values and not teaching gun safety. Back in the day adolescent boys had a strong father figure for discipline, and started apprenticeships/work (which occasionally included hunting) very early by today's standards. Additionally it was not uncommon to see young boys join the military.
Must have a valid gun user licence, kind of like driving licence - A reasonable test on the local level before purchase would make sense, but the problem with a license itself is that by registering someone's name in the system, the government knows who owns guns, thus making gun confiscation easier. Now you might say, "The government needs to take bad guy's guns away", and this is true, but what defines a "bad guy"? Anyone who is against your agenda could qualify. This allows the majority to oppress the minority, and even worse the government, or those in power to oppress anyone. Big government is great until it turns on you.
On top of this, its already been stated that criminals don't give a chit about your laws, and on top of that restricting constitutional rights for stupid reasons such as these is illogical.
TLDR: This is a culture and mental health issue

Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope.
-Requiring a min IQ is 100% a fascist ideal. A study was done on that and voting requirements in the 80s and that was the finding.
-Why is 25 years old the magic age where you can be trusted to own a firearm? Why cant an 18 year old be trusted at home with an AR15 but he can certainly be trusted to carry an M4 with an M203mm grenade launder, a M240B machine gun, M249 SAW, or an M2 .50 for the military? Why does he not deserve to get to defend himself at home with a firearm?
-I'm am both for and against licenses.
For: so we know who can and can't have one and also who must give them up once they become a felon or a danger to themselves or others.
Against: It's none of the government's god damned business if i own a firearm or not
Besides, i knowof dumb mother fukkers who drive cars that MOST CERTAINLY shouldnt be allowed to
Edit: Not just anyone should be allowed to possess a firearm however. As it stands now, there are a bunch of different background check databases and they all need to be combined and FFL dealers should be given access so that d-bags like that kid from Texas can never get his hands on one. But to try and say that there needs to be some mental screening put in place of EVERYONE who wants to pwn a gun is stupid since instances like texting and driving kill WAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY more people than several years of gun violence combined, yet the most serious we get about that are pledges and state laws. Did that slow the deaths though? Absolutely now. If you follow the MSM, they would have you believe that gun violence is worse than it has ever been before and it is absolutely not. Its lower now than it has been in 20 years.
CPRC in Fox News: Police are extremely Law-abiding, but concealed handgun permit holders are even more so
Uncomfortable statistics that don’t fit the media narrative about mass shootings in United States
Gun Homicide Rate Down 49% Since 1993 Peak; Public Unaware
And if you ever heard a vet call for gun reform

The ACLU warned that the bill stripped Americans who were not shown to be a danger to themselves or others of Constitutional rights, including young people struggling with depression, those with eating disorders, and other mental disorders.
"The thousands of Americans whose disability benefits are managed by someone else range from young people with depression and financial inexperience to older adults with Down syndrome needing help with a limited budget," wrote the ACLU. "But no data — none — show that these individuals have a propensity for violence in general or gun violence in particular."

There's no reason to change the law regarding ownership. You simply need to enforce the laws that are already on the books to reduce crime. If anything, you'd just want to punish gun crimes with harsher penalties.

people always say the US is different to other countries, so the stats that are used to support gun control don't matter. maybe it's because the US is different that there should be tighter gun laws... the US has, by far, the highest number of guns owned, but not nearly the highest per capita gun murder rate. however, it does have, by far, the most mass-shootings. switzerland has chitloads of guns but hardly any gun murders, and no mass shootings. obviously it's cultural.
i wish someone would do some legit studies - you always see these statistics showing that higher gun ownership = higher gun crimes.fukn duh. surprise surprise, no guns, gun crime goes down.
maybe it exists, but i haven't seen it - a study that somehow shows the relationship between gun ownership/control and overall homicides, taking into account similar information on bordering countries, eg gun control obviously works a lot better in australia (no bordering countries) than it would in the US
