Definitely looks like he is try to get the cop to shoot him. No idea how the cop didnt shoot him. Guy keeps raising what appears to be a gun and pointing it at the cop.

Hopefully by getting the guy alive they can get more info about him/motives/terror cells.

Edit: Apparently it was a cell phone not a gun.

How, by having the police politely ask him questions?

If he is a terrorist, maybe he can get a state pension and a nice apartment if he enters a reintegration program. Can't be any worse than those ISIS guys from Syria the Canadian's want to reintegrate.

you see, I kind of see it like a tree. If you try to ban a means to an end, you are merely pulling a branch off.

Mental illness is the root of the issue, but pulling roots is pretty god damn hard.

Just seems redundant to me to go after a single means to an end, particularly when technology will enable more ways for us to kill in the future. the reason we don't focus on mental health is because such a problem has no easy solutions, and solutions that will likely trample on rights.

It's politically expedient to blame everything on an object, score brownie points with citizens, and hope it works.

This guy showed obvious murderous intent and state of mind with the van, THEN points an object at the officers like he's pointing a gun. He shouldn't be alive. No fukkin way on earth I wouldn't have dropped the guy immediately. Those cops are seriously lucky they get to go home to their families because hesitation like that gets cops killed.
