My problem with the new Star Wars is that the new story they're telling doesn't seem to be going anywhere, while old characters they bring back are kinda distracting and they're just being killed off here and there. They're not doing enough to really continue the old story, and the new story just builds too slowly and I'm not sure if it's gonna even pay off. Snoke's arc was uneventful I feel like. And while Kylo's escalation is interesting, his dramatic dynamic only involves Rey at this point since Snoke, Luke, and Han (and soon to be Leia) are gone.

I hope Luke's prophecy gives good ground for Rey's story to run on. I really liked how she flipped the jedi mind tricks on Kylo in the first movie. I think Luke's prophecy and Kylo's arc in conjunction with each other is interesting, but I'm not sure what Kylo's doing this for anymore aside from living up to his grandfather. Not really sure what they're up to with Finn and Poe's stories, but I'm open to it.

Moreover, even breaking even, it would be a monumental failure. Star Wars movies need to make money. Lucas didn't hand the property over to them for free. They plunked down a check for $4 billion dollars. That investment needs to pay every-damn-year, 10% (or $400 million) just to be considered "meh", 20% or more to begin to be considered a strong return.

So, while the profit for the year is more than just the returns for Soylo, you have the toys nobody is buying, the t-shirts nobody wears, the blurays that sit on shelves, and such, but Soylo actually losing money -- that is an absolute disaster.

Meanwhile, if you ask me, Soylo wasn't the worst. I didn't care for the casting and there was some Meh-ness to it, but it was not offensive like Last Jedi. No media outlets will even speculate that the cause of Soylo's failure might be backlash against Last Jedi. Major media sites completely ignore that even as a possibility - which says something. The fact they ALL refuse to talk about it, tells me that behind closed doors, someone has forbid them from doing so, and for someone to forbid something to be spoken means they realize there is truth to it.

Disney needs a strong course correction. This involves replacing the top (Kennedy) and acknowledging that telling the fans they're bigots and haters was unwise. Instead of ignoring reality and thinking the fans will accept any slop they serve. No more politics, particularly left-wing ones or weird feminist agendas. That has yet to pay off with any industry that's attempted it, to my knowledge.
I didn't watch Rogue 1 in theater because had no interest in it but went to Last Jedi. That movie was an insult to what I know about star wars. It was fukking awful and your right I didn't even consider solo because of it.

Not gonna lie still watch the marvel stuff though, but starwars is just going the opposite direction. Force awakens had sketchy as fukk plot devices but it wasn't that bad like Last Jedi with a script written by a 12 year old. Rogue 1 was alright and surprisingly not bad like I expected it to be

Aside from that, they should have just found a way to follow the books and skip to the part where Luke was in his elder years with a re-established Jedi Order. What really made me mad was most of the new Star Wars films take little snippets from the Expanded Universe books. LAZY and UNORIGINAL. They turned Luke into a total puzzy, Kylo Ren and Snoke are weak antagonists. The story is going nowhere and I'm positive the writers are just winging most of it.

They could have found a way to follow the books. They could have did the late story arc where an unknown race from another galaxy invade. The Imperal Remnant and the New Republic had to band together to stop them.

Just give me a Rated R Bob Fett movie directed by Christopher Nolan in the same dark tone as the Batman movies and we can call it even.

Unless they start making star wars rated R, Im not gonna bother watching them anymore. Solo was total chit and it actually broke my heart.
You've seen all the films up to Solo. I think you're going to watch the next one bro.

I couldn't make it to TLJ, but wife and son went, and I was going to catch it the next week. She came back and said not to waste my time. didn't see Solo either.

I feel like they have the attitude of cruise control writing. Basically they go in with the attitude knowing that anything with the Star Wars label on it will have an automatic revenue stream because Star Wars fans will show up even with bad reviews.

Her resume is admittedly pretty damn good. Lots of truly great movies there. Some mediocre ones, but I cannot spot any box office failures at least at first glance.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kathle...r)#Filmography

Having the new Star Wars movies break box office records is not much of a feat though. Star Wars is the mother of movie franchises. The only franchise, that will never make people cringe for coming up with bazillions of sequels. Any Star Wars film will be highly successful.
That being said, I didn't like the creative direction the last two movies went. The first one was a pretty cheap nostalgia trip made to tick all boxes. The second one was a pretty incoherent mess that murdered most of the set expectations in a lame way. It also had some really stupid dialogue at times, which made me question Rian Johnson's intellectual capacities.
Both movies still had some cool looking moments at times, but both were a lot worse than exspected.

Many of the more awkward stuff seems more like things a producer would decide and not nsomething the writers would even care about, which is why I think Star War would be better off without her.

No, which is why I said revenue and not profit because I'm not sure what the profit margins are. I personally think Lucasfilm was undervalued at 4 billion. Disney will easily make their money back.

You'll notice as her creative control over the movies rise, the quality decreases drastically. A perfect example is the absolute chit show that was avatar: the last air bender. No one associated with that should have been allowed to make another movie without starting over but here we are watching KK in charge of the most popular franchise in history.

There's absolutely no point in going to see episode IV because the timeline resembles an 8 year old's abstract impression of a picasso painting at this point. Everything is "because reasons".

I feel like the only thing that could redeem SW at this point is a Vader spin off during the time gap where Anakin became the ultimate badass after being defeated by Kenobi and before Luke took down the Empire, where Vader and Palpatine basically enslaved the entire galaxy with an iron first. With competent directors and producers think of the potential.

I mean, that is why they bought it from Lucas for billions.

Spend $4 billion, make back $12 billion, appeal to a mass crowd, spend as few creative resources as possible / vertically integrate, profit.

Rumor is that overall it was much more comedic in tone, that L3-37 was a complete parody of SJW feminist/activist culture (and not just a subtle or debatable one) and that those two taken together were too much.

SJWs can NOT handle criticism, they'll spend $200,000,000 to reshoot a finished movie rather than suffer light criticism/mockery.

This is demonstrably bullchit.

Complete and utter garbage.

Disney, as I've pointed out, spend $4,000,000,000 to get the rights. They need to make 10-20% return on that annually to be considered a good investment. Meaning, they need to make $400,000,000 minimum just to go, "meh". 4 billion "revenue" doesn't cut it when you have to consider the costs of the movies, the marketing, them splitting that revenue with theaters and such.

FA, TLJ and Rogue One were profitable, no doubt, they made money, they did what they needed to do - but don't fuk around and kid yourself that somehow revenue = profits or ignore that any profits below $400 million are unacceptable and would be a failure.

Soylo *losing* money, not even paying for it's production much less making a profit, and likely by $100,000,000 or more -- that's fuking horrific for Disney. Instead of making $400,000,000 to basically break even, they're in the fuking red on this one. That is a disaster of epic proportions.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

It's safer to exist in a bubble, and talk about how everything is fine. Force Awakens made around 2.1 billion dollars I believe. The Last Jedi made 1.3 billion dollars. Solo is a flop, the future isn't looking good for Episode 9.
