Yes but becoming uncomfortable by producing nothing (using a stationary ladder for 3.5 hours) is kind of ridiculous, no?

Peoples values are their own

I think miscing for 3.5 hours producing nothing is ridiculous but I'm still doing it...lol

I can't stand endurance sports. Pointless endeavour for people with too much time on their hands that inevitably leads to injuries.

But by all means go jump on a versa climber for 4 hours and achieve nothing, maybe if you're lucky you'll avoid tendonitis for a few sessions. Seems like a good idea bro

yes he's got mental issues and deep seeded insecurities he has to overcome daily. he says this all the time.
it's not for me, as i have a job and family, but that's literally his whole life, is to work out and do silly shyt feats. some of us are good at selling air conditioners, some at engineering airplanes; he's good at exercising. that's his niche, and he'll milk it while it lasts. i know he's claiming natty, but at some point, if he's not already he'll have to start teching to at least maintain.

what's everyone's opinion on cam hanes?

I did an hour on the stairclimber at max level once. After a while the challenge is paying attention enough to not hurt yourself because goddamn is it boring. Same with running...after a couple miles, it's just so insanely annoying I want to quit and do something else.

The assumption that mental toughness can solely be cultivated by torturing your body to extremes is fallacious and irresponsible. But that is a choice Goggins made for himself, one that he's never imposed on anyone else. His core credo however, isn't to beat yourself up to the point of masochism, but that people should get out of their comfort zones from time to time and that people are stronger than they appear to be. The one thing you can take away from people living to the point of extremes, is not that we should follow their example (which is something he's never asked anyone to do by the way), but that human beings are capable of great things no matter their limitations.

^^This is 100% accurate and I cant believe it isnt clear to anyone listening to one of his conversations/podcasts...He basically spells out that he had a rough childhood, never felt good enough and he decided to go full loco with extreme challenges to feel worthy and build up mental toughness.

Goggins decided to build a wall around his castle so a hurricane wouldnt blow it down. The key is that he learned he didnt want to have his castle blown down AGAIN from the experience of having his castle blown down.

..and Im not taking anything away from him. He is a bad a** dude with a list of amazing accomplishments.

so he calloused his mind then.

in every interview he mentions callousing the mind

@ 1:30

Maybe you guys should listen to what he's saying in videos like this, his methods are his methods but he's preaching nothing but positivity tbh and overcoming obstacles.

He's not saying you all need to do what he does, only an autist would do that.

...again I dont have anything against him. Im simply stating his drive is fueled by fear. Ask yourself - Why do you need to callous your mind? Only those that suffer abuse feel the need to grow callouses to protect themselves...Dont get me wrong I believe a certain level of tenacity and mental grit are required but it doesnt require the drive to find self abusing activities.

In another thread I mentioned that I used to read special forces book avidly when I was a kid. The one thing that struck me over time is that almost all of them have a history of utter poverty, mental abuse and or physical abuse. I challenge you to find an auto-biography of a special forces soldier that doesnt include clear depictions of abuse or abject poverty. I've literally never read a book from a special forces soldier that didnt include these background experiences...not one book. I personally believe the reason why 95% of the average population washes out special forces is because a well adjusted person does not have the tools to deal with that level of mental/physical abuse. The vast majority of people that make it through are the type that have already been defined by some sort of abuse. These types of people consider the abuse they handle in special forces "normal" and have the mental protection methods already in place, so they make it through..

...are these people "tougher", yes. Does that mean mental toughness due to abuse is healthy or a goal any of us should aim to achieve, LOL - NO.

Maybe that's true

Maybe some people need to see someone doing the impossible to give them that little bit of extra strength to make progress in their own journey in life, knowing if someone can do that then what's their excuse to not do something much easier. ( I think this is the main reason people look up to Goggins )

Jesus misc.. this thread is THE shining bastion of what's wrong with all of you. Soooo pent up with your own insecurities that you're trying to compare yourselves as morally superior to a guy you don't even know. Especially someone who served our country.
