Up to you if you're worried about it, take the topical cream by all means.

I suggested Raw Garlic for the Alicin (natural antibiotic) and as it's the only things proven to kill MRSA effectively (you mentioned MRSA)

I suggested Acidophilus as Eddie B swears by it for ring worm and also to bolster your gut flora with the large amount of Alicin you will be consuming from the Raw Garlic

By all means trust Medical Science but topical treatment won't cover the aforementioned concerns (if you are serious about them)
Allicin is a promising compound, but it's very volatile even at room temperature and needs its corresponding enzyme found in garlic to become allicin from its precursor compound. Unfortunately, the acidic environment of the stomach and proteolytic enzymes of the enzyme denature and destroy that enzyme, so I doubt you'll reach high levels in the blood to reach the Mean Inhibitory/Bactericidal Concentration needed for MRSA.

Sounds like a chit tier doctor. You should be on fuking oral antibiotics right now. I probably would have lost my leg without them srs

You won't die from MRSA. Me and my wife both had it years ago when it was new and didn't have many antibiotics to fight it.

Just get the antibiotics to treat the internal fluids and use cetaphil on your body to keep the outside clean. MRSA will spread easily, which I hope you are not still training with others.

Had mine for a long time and was a pain. Boils all over. Wife got it and it was on her eye brow which got swollen huge. Had to go to the ER after the doctor told us too cause there was a fear of the swelling warping her eye ball. The medicine wasn't working and we had to stay over night with an IV.

After that. I wash my hands constantly and don't work out with a muscle shirt anymore. I am sure i got from the gym.

Isn't that why you crush the garlic first, to release the enzyme?

At the least you'll have high levels of vitamin C and an inhibition of Cyclooxygenase to help with the inflammation.

Mirin knowledge btw ( I am certainly not educated enough on this stuff )

ive had staph twice in my life (lower back) 2x in a 6-month period, that was 7 years ago so I guess it never came back.

The first tiime, the bump got huge and I felt nausesos/tired/sweating like u are and went to the doctor. They are supposed to drain it to relieve pain/pressure and take antiboitics. The second time I knew what it was so I went early to the doctor and drain it again. Not sure how i got it since i didnt wrestler or bjj.

That sucks, but at least you were doing something cool. I got staph from a regular commercial gym about 4 years ago, wasn't on the mats or anything. Filthy inconsiderate fuks needs to stay home instead of spreading that chit around the gym.

I got impetigo under my right ted a few years from doing insanity workout videos. Urgent care gave me anti-fungal cream and a round of antibiotics and it went away after 2-3 weeks. I also had to wash my bras on the hottest water setting to remove bacteria.

I've had staph twice now. I just figured the people at my gym were doing a ****ty job of cleaning showers so I started driving home to shower instead and haven't had a problem since

I went to urgent care and the doctor there said, 'nah fam, it's not ringworm, looks like staph infection/impetigo, here is antibiotic cream prescription.'

So I have antibiotic cream and instructions to apply 2 x daily until it goes away, unless it's MRSA and doesn't go away and I DIE (no, she said if it doesn't go away then I can come back).

This would all be fine except I have also been feeling run down/sick to my stomach for the past few days and what if the infection is in my blood and I DIE????

Hold me misc. Also please don't be all 'ew gross' and mean to me, I didn't post pics in this thread and for once you should all be grateful.

My gym does have Defense soap in the soap dispensers and I always use that after class, not regular antibacterial soap like you'd get at the store. However, I was reusing a towel [to dry myself after a shower, NOT to sweat on!] for a few days in a row sometimes, and perhaps that was bad?

I have just troubleshot my entire routine. Today:

1. Bought a new backpack with a compartment to keep my dirty gi separate from the rest of my stuff.
2. Double-washed all of my clothing + gis with extra detergent.
3. Bought new long-sleeved rash guards (a b*tch to wear in summer, but others do it and are fine).
4. Bought new microfiber, antibacterial towels.

Is there anything else I can do to avoid this happening in future? Any other tips for protecting skin during rolls?

I'm also planning to cut down my training days from 6 per week to 4-5 and supplement with some regular gym work on the other day or two, so I can do grip work, deadlifts, and maybe a bit of running. That way I can still get a workout but be less exposed to pathogens and other people's sweat. I had been training REALLY hard and maybe too much (several hours a day for a few weeks) and I also think that hard rolling nearly daily did a number on my immune system. I'm used to running, which really does allow you to train daily and be OK, but it's harder to modulate intensity in BJJ, at least for me as a newer practitioner.

Do you wear a rashguard under your GI?

Can even help with skin getting pinched with grips etc

The reused towel thing might be the problem, staph could have come from that SEPARATELY as staph is legit on your skin 24/7.

You probably dried your armpit with the broken skin and that's how it got in

Hey man, thanks for checking in on me. Yes, I do want to compete this year, at least by winter, so I can get in at least a few competitions as a white belt. (Instructors have been prodding me for this). My sleep--well, the past week I think I've had some immune response to the staph so I have barely been able to sleep at night but then have needed a nap that day. So, not great. Stress is medium.

I do think I'll need to simply train less jiu jitsu, though--certainly fewer days. I'll still progress. I've felt a bit like I HAVE to go often or I'll forget everything, but that doesn't really make sense.

Could be it. I'll definitely never reuse a towel again! Even this week, I just stocked up on a bunch of small towels to use so I won't be drying myself with any single towel more than once before I wash it.

I do wear a rash guard, but it's been so darn hot I haven't been wearing long-sleeved ones, and I also train quite a bit nogi. Like I said, I got some long-sleeved rash guards on order and will start wearing them.

I also think my academy should start washing the mats between every class, not every two classes, but that's a big ask. I brought it up tentatively (as something my doctor requested) to the instructor I trust the most.

I've had 2 staph infections from deadlifting and the bar scraping my leg and breaking the skin. Just be sure to follow your antibiotic protocol and you should be fine, but it can get nasty, people have lost limbs, been amputated, or even died from this

You should ask if you can do that srs, I know it's not glamorous but they would be cool with you mopping the mats after class n if you care about the academy it's a really good gesture for serious students imo

I think every 2 classes is alright, staph isn't that big a deal. It's only through friction burns, cuts and ingrown hair follicles that it enters.

Don't let Staph put you off, it's not that common and with your fresh towel you'll be alright srs

I can understand your worries specially if you read too much about staphylococcus and it's serious systemic complications. However, these complications are rare and occur in immunocompromised individuals. Hopefully you're eating well and keeping your personal hygeine then you don't have to worry about it (excellent prognosis).

I see. Well, if you'd like to donate yours, I prefer to ingest it after it's been pulverized into smoothie form, or perhaps pickled. Then again, my meat tenderizer might do well enough. You like your meat beaten.... violently with a large metal hammer, right?

Cooking might remove some antimicrobial properties, I realize.

Hm. I should probably add garlic.
