Spoiler!
Since wealth was seen as proof of God’s approval, it was commonly taught by the rabbis that rich people were blessed by God and were, therefore, the most likely candidates for heaven. Jesus destroyed that notion, and along with it, the idea that anyone can earn eternal life by stating that even the rich are unworthy to enter heaven.

Was I in the future yesterday or did this exact thread already get posted by the exact same person?
If the former, I need it to happen again so I can see tomorrow's numbers.

Probably doing something super nerdy like the New York Times Crossword Puzzle cruise, I've always wanted to do that. After a day onboard, regretfully consider that I should have chartered a yacht.
Pay millions and millions in taxes.
Allocate 20% to family members. Tell my attorney this number. S/he takes care of that, and any 'suggestions' made by family members will be met with "Huh, that's interesting."
Continue working with same financial advisor, probably. Unless someone can change my mind here.
Dump half of what remains into a boring ass S&P 500 index fund.
I now have a HUGE nest egg that is growing at market rates. What now? I have more financial security than 99% of the country. Because my lawyer is worth his salt I will be insulated from most lawsuits. We would have a serious conversation about the level of volunteer work that will keep me fulfilled while keeping me away from being sued. I would buy a modest but nice house in a legal state, and maybe a getaway in Maine. Both homeswillhave a giant bathtub and a fireplace in the bathroom. Buy a new organ for my synagogue. Hope that nothing changes too badly, but it will. Try not to ruin my life or the live's of those I love.
Here's my thought on the lump sum situation. There is an extremely crummy rate for the annuity, usually hovering around 4.5% annual return or less, depending. It doesn't take much to do better than this, and if you have the money already in cash rather than leaving it in the hands of the state, you can pull from the capital as you'd like. If you take the annuity you won't have access to that cash. That could be good or bad. Perhaps bad unless you have a very addictive personality. If you need an allowance managed by the state, it is because you didn't listen to your lawyer wearing a suit that costs more than your entire current home, and you're going to screw this up anyway.

I’ve read stuff online from money managers that unless you’re already wealthy and accustomed to handling and making decisions for significant sums of money it’s risky to bring on that kind of windfall. It’s easy to get taken advantage of, especially by investment sharks

Pay off student loans. Buy a condo in the city and a new car. Put the rest aside and finish my education.
Obviously I’d shop for nicer clothes, but nothing too extravagant to where it’d even make a dent in 900mil

The biggest problem with winning the lottery is that your life is no longer private; every tom, dick, and harry will be after you for money and that included "long lost" family members and relatives.

Pretending we don't need to consider loss of principle on the annuity, the other kicker is that pre-tax dollars aren't all created equal, since lottery winnings are taxed as personal income, and I'm going to be in the chit-tier 37% federal income tax bracket, which will probably only go up over the next thirty years. Swapping that out for self-directed investments that will be taxed, at most, as capital gains at 20% changes the math.
I might only break even, but I get the added benefit of sleeping at night knowing I can liquidate the whole thing tomorrow if I wish to do so.
Nah, fukk that. I’m not doing that.

$20 million a year v. 400 million lump sum doesn’t make a difference to us
We can easily get out of control and die on either
Stop doing math and tell us what you would do with the cash!
I need some car recommendations
Would def buy a fly Tesla

I can live an extraordinary life on 2.5%, deep-dick the taxman, and still have the entire principal left over to build something incredible when I die, whether that's a charitable foundation or just, like, a pyramid.

1. Do the same thing to collect anonymously
2. Help my mom retire, give her anything she wants, travel, she loves her home so help her renovate or buy new if she wanted to move with me
3. Start a wild life reserve in the caribbean in an area where locals need jobs and start a sustainable farm. Adding a school so kids can grow up learning to reserve nature, and maybe open a few around the world Africa, Thailand, Bali etc
4. Build my own nature conservation and my own home in bocas, Panama with animal shelter
5. College funds and homes for my 2 nieces and nephew their all over 18, my best friend and college funds for her kids homes for all of them and a house for my sister. Rental homes for my aunt so she can retire.
6. Fund my brothers start up and anime convention plus car house etc he wanted
7. Buy a new Lamborghini and plane to visit my dad, plus gyms at all my homes
8. Health clinics in India and Africa
9. Rest in the bank

I think I'd retire but do nothing crazy except safe investments. I'd take all my free time to train like crazy - train my ass off, and probably move to France for a while and study some cooking fundamentals (pastry, sauces) for a while. I'd route some of my investment profits to St. Jude, and probably open a gym that has no membership fee at all, but anyone who disrespects the gym or its members is permanently banned from the premises. I'd try to make the 'dream' place, loads of deadlift platforms, squat racks, sprint areas, prowlers, whatever.
In fact, I might make a thread on the Misc saying 'help OP design the ultimate gym' and build it.
So nothing too crazy. Maybe take a year off and eat at every 3 star michelin restaurant in the world in 1 year..

1. Do not sign ticket and put in safe at home and not tell a soul, not even my wife.
2. Wait some time and secure financial planner and lawyer in adjoining large city only working with the top partners in the firm to setup trust.
3. Claim prize after the initial fervor has died down under said trust.
4. Upon claiming prize all social media will be deleted and family will be told we're going on a holiday for a month.
5. I would tithe to our church and help them build the new additions to the school. Donate to charities that actually help people (St. Jude's etc.)
6. Work with financial planner to live off of interest while setting up accounts for my children and children's children.
7. Buy investment property and buy property for our personal home to be built to spec (home gym, safe rooms, security, etc.)
8. Travel with my children to show them the world instead of reading about it in books.

in this order:
-pay off school debt
-buy property for myself, and 3 more as investments
- aware parents and siblings that I won money but don't disclose how much money. could easily rip family apart if they feel I didn't give them enough
- gift parents and siblings 15mil each or so
-buy cars and a couple more motorbikes
- have multiple threesomes with 10/10s
- put the remainder in high interest account and sit on it
why you want to work when you have 900 mil in the bank
