We're just used to them, as they dominate the shaving sections of stores and killed of competition. But the blades for the price, really aren't great and their shaving foam is terrible.

Don't care about Ads one way or another, but at the back of your mind you using a product made by a company, so arrogant that it can label you a desperate rapist and you'll still buy it. That should be punished.

Gillette's supposed superior quality of razors is nothing but a big marketing scam. I've used several different Gillette razors over the years, and the best were the Fusion 5, or the fancier version of that one, the ProGlide. I eventually got sick of spending absurd amounts of money on the Gillette razors, so I tried some others. The ones I found to be the most comparable were Harry's, and they cost significantly less. Harry's razors are extremely comparable to the Fusion/ProGlide Gillette razors in that they both are of the 5 blade variety. So let's compare prices, from the Target website as an example:

The Harry's handle w/ 2 razors starter set +12 count refill to be set for awhile is $33. To do the exact same with the basic Gillette Fusion 5, it costs $44. For ProGlide, it's $55.50.

But here's the kicker: I'd rank the comparable style Harry's razors somewhere in between the level of quality of the Fusion 5 and Gillette 5 in terms of general shave comfort. Harry's razors also last like 2x longer than Fusion 5's before going dull, and 3x longer than ProGlides before those things go to crap. Basically, $33 worth of Harry's (handle + 14 total razors) would costs you about $88 to do the same with the Fusion 5, or $166.5 with the ProGlide (or $111 if you assume they last as long as their Fusion 5 counterparts, which I firmly felt they didn't from my experience). That means you'd be paying 2.5x - 5x the cost over time just to have the Gillette name brand on an almost identical level of quality razor in Harry's.

In short, I didn't need to see an annoying politically driven ad from Gillette to see through their bs and jump ship from their garbage products. Have fun paying well over double what you need to just to have their name brand on it.

Pricing
$55 - $33 = $22 difference

Value/Differentiation - Gillette
No nicks
No razor burns
No tugging
Last longer

Worth it?
Would you rather take the bus with other stinky peasants or drive in a Mercedes S class, all for a $22 difference. Its a no brainer, bb.

Harry's -

Their blades suck, period.

Dollar Shave -

Cliffs of my first post:

- Harry's razors are virtually the exact same thing as top of the line Gillette razors, Fusion 5 and ProGlide, right down to style design, # of blades (5), and comfort of shave.

- Biggest differences between them is that Harry's costs 2/3 or even half what those do, plus last 2-3x longer, so you pay even more than that over time to get the Gillette name brand on the razor.

I mean, I took the non-shaving snob approach and even stuck to extremely comparable cartridge shavers as Gillette's razors. Just proved that you can get virtually the same level quality and style of razors for upwards of 2.5x - 5x less cost than Gillette over time by going to a different brand. So if having the Gillette logo on your razor is really that important to you that you're willing to spend well over double for the exact same thing made by another popular brand like Harry's, then go ahead and keep giving them your money. I don't care.

I don't care that much about the political ad, and even less about trying to stick it to their parent company Procter and Gamble by trying to avoid ALL of their brands altogether, but for those who do: Harry's was founded by Andy-Katz Mayfield and Jeff Raider, who still own the company to this day, with headquarters locations in New York City and in Germany. Furthermore, they bought the Feintechnik razor factory in Germany so they could have 100% control over the manufacturing process of their products. Thus, they're about as far away from Procter and Gamble influence as you're going to find in any other widely available cartridge shaving razor blades.

I get what youre saying but you're not getting what im saying - Competitors, Harrys and DSC, simply can't give you a good shave. Its impossible. Because the way that Gillette makes their razors is other worldly different. Thats why they cost so much. Its not because of marketing. Its because of the blade itself.

I wouldn't know how good DSC is, I've went DE before they hit the market.
I don't need to prove whether Harrys or DSC is good or not. But what I will prove is this:

A company is usually comprised of a few departments. You have marketing, finance, science, production. Those are possible departments.
Here's the kicker: most companies do no have a science department. Why? It simply cost too much money. By not having a science department, you have a product, but its not molded by science. Therefore it isn't as good as it could be. Gillette has a very STRONG science department. We're talking about modfkn 2020 Corvette ZR1 vs 2002 Toyota Corollas.

The Gillette blades look extremely simple but behind it making was alot of scientific study and engineering.

Gillette is coming out with a new blade and you guys are going to be blown away. Its a heated blade and it looks pretty dayum sick.

Stopped buying Gillette almost 10 yrs ago after getting a Schick Hydro free sample with a BB.com order. Had been using one Gillette blade/week shaving daily. One Hydro would last a month or two shaving daily. Can't speak to the quality of the Schick today since I shave like twice a yr now. Will say I've tried Harry's and thought it was garbage.

Interesting. But I have no fkn clue what im looking at. If it were up to me, Id pull all of those patents.

Competitors steal methods very easily just by reading patents. And once Harries and DSC can make their shave more comfortable, Gillette will lose a lot of money.

As I've stated before ITT, I'm personally not someone who cares about sticking it Gillette just over their stupid political ad. Their ridiculously overpriced products were enough for me look elsewhere. I care even less about purposely trying to stick it to their parent company Procter and Gamble like many talking about boycotting them over the political ad have mentioned both here and on the R/P sub.

That said, I don't blame them for their choice. It's their money, and if they feel strongly about it, there's nothing wrong with them choosing to spend their money elsewhere over it. But to specifically address points such as the one in your post here that points out the various ties some of these alternative razor brands some people have brought up have to Gillette or that are simply owned under the greater umbrella of Procter and Gamble, I don't see what the big deal is with that either. The brand names themselves still stand on their own marketing terms. While you might still be giving Procter and Gamble money by switching to a different razor brand (or just buying other products in general that they own the brand names of) they also happen to own, you're still using your dollars to send a message that you won't be supporting brands they market with annoying bs politics. Procter and Gamble wouldn't keep producing Gillette razors if enough people jumped ship from the brand if it became unprofitable for any reason, even if they were still getting that money from other brands, and they'd still have to face the fact that an annoying political stunt cost them revenue under a specific long-time popular brand.

But on the flip side, they do still have to think about those customers who will not only stop buying a particular brand, but who will intentionally go out of their way to avoid buying any brands falling under their parent company ownership altogether. In the internet age, it's not nearly as difficult to do as some people make it out to be, even if Procter and Gamble does own a ridiculous number of brands for any endless number of products on the market. Even though it doesn't bother me to quite that extent, I do get a good chortle out of it when companies trying to push annoying politics completely irrelevant to the given product end up losing revenue over it.

I honestly haven't taken note of you before the interactions I've had with you in this thread, so I'm not very familiar with you. Have you spent the vast majority of your account's 3 years on the misc trolling, or is that something you only do occasionally or on a part-time basis?

I don't think we exactly disagree about the matter of the political side of it. I only base my personal reasons for disliking the Gillette brand based on the cost to quality ratio. I quit buying their products long before that political ad of theirs came out.

Switched to Merkur DE and feather blades after the Gilette ad debacle. Haven't had a single nick or razor burn since and face feels smoother than when I used a ProGlide. Feather blades are also super cheap compared to Gilette. Feels good.
