Push-ups are superior to the bench for reasons listed in the OP. The problem is the loading restrictions for them which is what I set out to solve.

Your body isn’t structurally adapted to pushing against things that are behind your body; it’s unnatural and causes unnecessary shoulder stress. Exercises such as dips should be excluded from your exercise selection unless your shoulders are made of titanium

I actually met the owner of rogue fitness and his wife on holiday in tulum and stayed in touch with them. Super cool guy and really intelligent too. If you are serious (im pretty high ngl and havent read your thread properly) but I could probably swing an intro for you? They might be interested in you / the product.

nevermind, looks like my buddy already has a better version of your product lol
Your buddy has a better version? Mind shining some light on this? I'm completely unaware of there being anything even close to what I've created out there. And I hope his has already been patented because if not, and if his idea resembles mine, I'd likely gain rights to it.. srs.

edit - I'm assuming you were trolling me.. phucker

Hmmm, how would you still be able to perform it independently though without the barbell? This device is still usable without the barbell, but you'd need a partner to load on the plates as getting on a backpack over 100 lbs by yourself off of the floor or wherever else is extremely difficult.
Make the handle attaching the backpack to the bar longer and an open hook at the end. After the back pack is loaded you can strap the back pack on and kind of do a half squat to bring it off the bar. Then two steps back and you could use your device at any squat rack. Would not try to market this with the bar attached. It would be a really difficult sell to any potential gym owner or manager, you'd get complaints about it taking up excess space, using a barbell when a lot of gyms are limited and safety. Would possibly flare the ends of the pack up if possible to allow easier roll outs if you get stuck. Still a cool idea OP would probably try if my gym had one of these

Make the hook a single metal piece in black. It would look like a cobras head not a question mark. If you can do a push up with 90 lbs on your back you can definitely squat it.load\unload would be easy and the small amount of space it takes would be another key selling point to a gym.

Is this a srs thread?
Death is impossible for us to fathom: it is so immense, so frightening, that we will do almost anything to avoid thinking about it. Society is organized to make death invisible, to keep it several steps removed. That distance may seem necessary for our comfort, but it comes with a terrible price: the illusion of limitless time, and a consequent lack of seriousness about daily life. We are running away from the one reality that faces us all.

Same thing would apply though mane. The rotation issue and the barbell needing to be placed higher and the un-racking/re-racking issue would still remain.

Ya, saw that right after I made the post. Your contraption would be much more attractive if it didn't require an incline bench and not just a barbell, but a rack to hold it. Ya, every gym has them and ALWAYS in use and people waiting to use it. INB4 " some **** was using the squat rack to do push ups"

Kinda outside the subject here, but never seen this before. Pretty interesting

Much more practical IMO and you don't have to deal with the awkward feeling of having the weights sitting and shifting on your back.

Agreed. This device requiring only a power rack and incline bench makes it universally usable though. I saw that push-up machine vid a while back, that thing is awesome. You can also do weighted push-ups on a pitshark machine or a booty builder machine but all 3 of those cost like $7k-$10k each and virtually zero gyms have them unfortunately

Yes, and the problem is that those are unstable with the weights constantly swinging during the movement, and going past 100 lbs on that would be an absolute bish. But if you're going with 90 lbs or less then that's a pretty effective method.

Nah man you're overcomplicating it. You would never have to set the bar above eye height. If it were a single open hook you just walk forward and squat to unrack once the hook hits the bar

I'm a bit confused on the multi-spike though. Would that make it more practical than how it currently is? I'm just having a hard time imagining it I guess
Then don't worry about the multi spike. To my mind, you need to get rid of the barbell. An easier solution would be to extend the hook so the full sized plates don't get in the way when you're unracking. Then you don't need to keep the barbell attached to your back as if you're Jesus carrying the cross, nomsayin?

really cool.

barbell and the need to rack on a power rack is a big hindrance though. if that was addressed it could be great for getting a sick minimalist workout in or for travel.

Great initial concept, m8.

That could be a great product with further engineering.
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

the powerlifting practice of tucking the elbows is generally safer, but it does not recruit the pecs nearly as well as flaring the elbows out to the side. This is really mainly an issue on the bench press though because the shoulder blades are not free to move, whereas with push-ups they can move freely - rendering the exercise much, much more shoulder friendly allowing you to significantly flare your elbows out without much concern.

Dips are in a whole other league of their own when it comes to shoulder issues

This is interesting. I recently invented a similar device. Much more effective though. I've also acquired a patent. Since my design has taken years and years of research and development, I would be willing to sell you the design if the price was right. Here is an actual photo of the device being used by a professional power lifter.

Notice the key functions of this device.
A custom designed "weight pack" with an eyelet on top.
The low profile, space alloy power cantilever with exhaustion hook

This allows the user to load weight, hook weight onto cantilever and then crawl under and unrack weight himself.

lol plenty of people do basic chit at the gym, the setting and environment at home is just not the same. fuk working out in my own living room like some poor sad kunt. either way selling devices for people to use at home is probably a bigger market than for gyms only

you invented a back pack full of rocks

although gj with the effort etc

it just seems like a lot of work to go through when you could just do bench press instead
