this wasn't the tone that was set in the first episode though

it does stress that we should be careful with that sort of power (obviously) but the biggest emphasis was laid on the stupidity of trying to cover up mistakes by lying (either for self-preservation or to detain image damage), which costed/costs lives

You realize the death toll is somewhere between 4,000 and 200,000, right?

It was pretty damn good actually. Some of the dudes were annoying as fuk though lol, but I guess they were saving their own arses.

I much prefer that than the lame Hollywood Russian accent. If you are not using native actors, don't fake accents.

What is terrifying is that the last reactor on the plant was only shutdown in 2000, and the plant was producing electricity after the incident.

No problem brah, I am really excited for the rest of this series. After watching this series premier, I have been borderline obsessed with reading about this catastrophe and all the fallout.

after this post I watched "The Russian Woodpecker"

to be honest, I'm not really buying this conspiracy theory

- the makers are far from objective on the matter it seems, so the theory fits conveniently in their agenda which makes it suspicious from the start

- I might be naive here, but at one point it is stated that the death penalty was possible for those involved with the faillure of the Duga and this was used as an argument for them to make Chernobyl meltdown.... I honestly have difficulties believing anybody can be that selfishly insane to even think about sacrificing potentially millions of lives for self-preservation

- even if that minister was that crazy: at the end they say he made a call to the day shift at the plant in order to cause the meltdown but they refused, and they tried again with the night shift and they agreed (w0t??). I understand sheep mentality and blindly following orders etc., but no way any operator agreed with that request for genocide - no way

the documentary was an interesting watch though, but I would be sceptical when watching

some of the facial expressions of the main artist guy (Fedor) were lolzy

Yeah thought the same. But there wasn't much info back then about radiation. I'm sure they were aware it was dangerous but maybe not to the actual extent.
Also, that mustache guy could ruin their lives if they were to jump ship.

It’s this. That’s how communism works. Dyatlov even told one of them “I can’t do anything to make this better for you, but I can make it worse.” I believe he said it to one of the guys who then went and waded through radioactive water to open some valves in order to get coolant water flowing into the nonexistent core.

They knew what radiation would do. Dyatlov mentioned having experience with it and if you google him the real life Dyatlov had previously been exposed to like 200 roentgens or something and his son died of leukemia. He knew what Easton does, he just didn’t believe that the reactor exploded because he had been told “RBMK reactors don’t explode.”
And relief washes over me in an awesome wave

absolutely could not wait for this to come out. first episode was fantastic. the way it was filmed and the scoring was just great. i cannot wait for the rest of the episodes. obviously we all know how it ends, but even then it's enough to keep you stuck in. i hate that it happened but i did enjoy reading about it over the years.
