He may have had a bad experience with a girl early on, not being able to get it up or something. Then he over analysed it in his mind as to why it happened and the fear of it happening again stopped him from trying again. I know a few 30yr+ virgins like myself, but it's a small fraction of the people I've met.
Plus I've never met anyone older than me who was a virgin.

And I don't think mental illness particularly led him to being incel, but mental. Illness probably had a big part to play in why he became a mass shooter.

I imagine he was perpetually cockblocked by his own cognitive dissonance relating to his view that minorities (specifically asian males) were inferior, then looking in the mirror and seeing a half asian male that turned out mostly asian looking due to inheriting dominant traits from his mother's side. As he stated he simply could not comprehend the way the world worked; to him it was ridiculous and unfair. He had no social intelligence whatsoever. A lot of people have this problem and choose to deal with it in many different ways. His choice of how to face the issue is the other half of his problem.
