If you travel a decent amount and eat out at lot, I'll mention this one since it hasn't been mentioned yet: American Express Gold Card
-4% at restaurants in US and worldwide
-4% at US supermarkets, up to 25k a year
-3% for travel booked through Amex
It has a $250 annual fee, but it's slashed by $120 dining credit ($10 per month for 12 months) and $100 airline fee credit, so the effective fee is essentially $30.
Plus, the sign up bonus is pretty nice (look for 50K MR points) and the card is easily one of the most aesthetic around.

so you would have to spend like 6k+ just to earn $250 cashback at 4% and remain profitable w/ that annual fee if my potato math is right.
congrats you played yourself.
Look, i know i don't really know you and all, and i know you probably hear this like everyday, but your just so perfect to me. The few hours we talked were really great even if the convo was stale, your really pretty and chill, and your country thats just perfect :'D i really dont know how to explain it, but i think i have feelings for you somehow. i never felt like this with someone i just met, but i felt the need to get it off my chest. sorry for being all weird just idk how to explain it D:

The point is that you need to have good spending habit, don't spend what you wouldn't spend in cash or debit card. If you can't do that, don't get a credit card.

These cards also have a downgrade path to no annual fee cards, so if you believe the annual fee exceeds your positive expected value for the card after the first year, just downgrade the card to a no fee card.just LOL at annual fees

fuk that.
i guess you could argue with certain card offers such as AMEX where you could save 250 much quicker. But those are hit or miss .

My experience with capital one is muchhh better than chase
I mean, chase hasnt been bad. But capital one feels like its providing chit. Get tons of offers, updates, app is intuitive as hell, way more credit limit increases, etc.
When i used cap. One customer service to block a card, they were awesome. Havent really used chase like that though
Im trying to decide whether to add to my chase or cap one cards

American Express Platinum:
+$450 annual fee
- $200 Airline Credit (i use for seat upgrades + inflight booze/food purchases)
= Essentially a card I pay $250 a year for to access Centurion and Priority Pass lounges no less than 6 times a year. Stays in sock drawer and only use to purchase flights/hotels that my company reimburses for.
American Express Gold:
+250 annual fee
- $100 Airline Credit (redeem this basically with a single checked bag purchase)
- $150 GrubHub credit (i have an alert on my phone that goes off to tell me to redeem this every month)
= Card pays for itself for 4x back at restaurants/clubs/bars
Chase Sapphire Preferred:
+95 annual fee
My "catch all" card when AmEx isn't accepted somewhere.
The Amex Platinum card is the only card i feel i truly "pay" to use. That said, have you ever had a 2+ hour layover and NOT had access to a priority or centurion lounge? it's pure hell. Totally worth the price.

Rotate between Amex gold, Costco, Chase Sapphire and Chase Southwest. This hits all the gas/groceries/food/travel sweetspots. I get companion pass every year so wife flies free on SW. Used to have an amex plat - but wasn't worth it with the gold and the price increase

You could make an argument for AmEx Platinum holders like myself. The CSReserved also comes with priority pass lounge access but no centurion lounge. That said I only used the Centurion Lounge twice last year.
And even for those vain few that had the AmEX plat due to the metal/weight quality, they gave that same quality to the AmEX gold.

Chase Reserve for travel and restaurants
Chase Freedom for everything else
Go on probably 3-4 trips a year flying Southwest and haven't paid for a flight for myself or my gf (outside of the $11.50 security fee) for 2-3 years now. Plus Club Mobay lounge in Jamaica baby.
I have a few others I keep around and use sparingly every once in a while just for their longevity and adding to my overall credit limit.

With that said, it'd almost be worth changing supermarkets for that. You can also use the 4x points to buy third-party giftcards there, so you get 4x on all your Netflix, Home Depot, major gas station brands, etc.
However, if you're not using the points for travel, you need to cash out with the Schwab Platinum to get a good redemption. The only real clear reason to carry the Platinum is...for the travel perks. If you're not going to use those there's no way to wash out the fees. So...
OP is probably better off with Freedom Unlimited and keeping it simple, no-fee.

It sucks, but the most expensive thing in the world is having low cash flow. People rolling around paying full price like chumps because they don't spend enough to unlock the biggest discounts.
Nah, fukk that. I’m not doing that.

Schwab does give nice discounts on mortgages and a cashback credit on their version of AmEx Platinum if you carry the right investment balances, though, so I'm gunning for that.
