KB was my first job as Christmas help... it was terrible. Parents were worse than the kids. Never again.
Short cuts to success are often paved with lies.

Living in MN, I wonder how long before the Mall of America ends up like the smaller malls that used to be busy and full. The MOA is a huge structure to end up sitting empty......

All those chains ate Mom & Pop businesses alive by the bajillions, boo hoo for them.
I do miss going to the mall though, the 90s was GOAT.

Funny thing is, before there were department stores, you would have a store catalog (aka Sears) which listed all of their products which you would then receive by mail.
Because I don't post enough to care to and I forget the next day

If in-person retail was on life support, COVID is indirectly putting it out of it's misery. These days you go to malls and it's no more than 25 people in store, have to wait in line like you're at disney or something just to browse. BRB the thing you wanted isn't in stock anyway, BRB somehow the online store is cheaper and has free shipping, I'll just try it on in store and order online.
Times are changing as they always are, and companies that don't adapt (sears) get tossed aside.

People around here seem to have plenty of money to spend, you just gotto catch their attention with something fun or unique.

Some of those stores really sucked dik. I cant remember ever walking into a teavana or gnc and not being immediately set upon by some sales person they had trained to try to upsell me on spending a hundred bucks for **** that isnt worth a hundred bucks. Radioshack would take some item that cost less than a dollar to make and put a $20 price tag on it because hey where else are you going to get this weird specialized adapter.
I actually have a different take. If youre not obviously adding value.. 9 times out of 10 you have no business taking **** someone else made and marking it up. Where I live there are numerous stores targeting the wealthy as theres a lot of money here. I **** you not one block away theres a store that just does fancy olive oil and spices. There are some really stupid people in the world. You do not need a $40 bottle of olive oil because some sales person told you it comes from xyz place and is processed in some special way. We have stores here selling soap and lotion with the same gimmick.

If it weren’t for the fact that most stores ship with usps and usps is absolute chit
-Some people say good things come to those who wait, truth is, good things come to those who work..... who work later.....who work harder...... who are willing to go further than anyone else to get them. If you're waiting for good things to come to you, you'll be waiting for a pretty long time.
-I'd rather live life saying "I failed" than "I could have"

Amazon is honestly superior in terms of convenience, price and quality. Brb-low price, hundreds of reviews, and delivery to your door. Retail was dead then and there. A few years ago, people said those retail businesses will die out, and be replaced by “experience” based businesses. You know, malls with indoor water parks, restaurants, and big theaters (looking at you, American Dream mall). Covid changed that. What do we do with the space now? You guys should be thinking about that, because your idea could make you some serious money.

Outside of Blockbuster, who really gives a fcuk?
These places went out of business for a reason. They were over priced, employed crappy/underpaid people, weren't always location convenient and had poor business models overall.
There are still very successful brick & mortars for damn near all of these lines of business, movie rental aside.

Most of those stores sucked ass. Overpriced 1000X markup. Finding parking, making lines, no thanks Jeff.
Back in the days you had to actually go in person to pay bills, making a long ass line just to pay your light bill.
F that.
Thank God for the Internet.
I'm not going to romanticize the blow your brains out experiences of the past, yes there was good and cool stuff, but a lot of it was just inefficient waste of life moments.

It's the end of the world. In a few million years from now some Neanderthal humans will come up again and society will develop just as it did before. Eventually there will be retail stores again. But as of today, yeah we're fukked.
