I wish I could recommend it. It is absolutely the best capacity for its size as a 1.5 stack 9mm. Unfortunately, I don't feel comfortable recommending handguns that have the strikers randomly break on them with no indication that it's happened.

Or the trigger goes dead because the spring broke or disconnected, or the sights on the SAS model aren't zeroed and can't be adjusted, etc.

Love the idea and the innovation of the P365. The beta testing on cutomers with a gun designed for carry . . . not so much. I might think about a P365 someday if they can prove they aren't going to leave be stuck when I need it the most. Until then, I'll happily carry my Shield that goes boom every time.

There are two reactions to the VP9:
-I can shoot this better than any other striker
-God Damnit HK...

With how good the CZ P10C has been, I'd probably recommend that. M&Ps basically require the Apex Trigger kit...

If you wanted to love a VP9 but didn't . . . check out a Walther PPQ M2.

Like Ikeman noted, there's a love/hate relationship with VP9's. I absolutely love mine and it's a nail driver. Some people don't like them at all.

My wife has the PPQ M2. It's very easy to shoot well and the prices on them are way down.

Was gonna buy the Ruger 1911 2 years ago but when it went off roster I gave up. Got a Sig 1911 instead.

That's how I felt with the VP9 and the Sig 2022. Not gonna hate on em but they definitely don't shoot/feel like the mid range models from the same manufacturer. I actually prefer them over Glocks though, my least favorite brand, no offense.

Got to the calguns.net sales forum and make a deal with someone. CA allows off roster guns to be registered here if the person moves from another state where it was legally registered, and then they are allowed to transfer that gun legally to you in your name (PPT - private party transaction). You make a deal with the seller and go to your local dealer and it works just like buying a gun from anywhere else. They background check you, charge you like $25-50, wait 10 days, and then you go pick it up. The FFL doesn't facilitate your transaction as far as money goes, they just do the legal part.

Ah now that rings a bell. I haven't stayed up to date on the AR laws either but I'll learn soon enough when I shop for a rifle.

AR you're good to go if you want featureless (no pistol grip, no forward grip, no flash suppressor, no telescoping butt stock etc). If you want full features, you need to have a fixed magazine, meaning the action must be opened for the mag release button to work. Been looking to buy a shotgun and a rifle for target practice and skeet shooting. Really want a handgun for personal protection and to learn how to aim and control, but NY is near impossible to get a license for one.

There’s a lot that can go into purchasing a handgun, which basically comes down to a sliding scale of concealability vs capacity/ease of use. Smaller handguns will be easier to hide on your person for concealed carry, but will be more difficult to shoot, and will have a reduced magazine capacity as a result of their smaller size. Larger handguns will have a longer sight radius (distance between front and rear sight) which makes them easier to aim accurately. They will also have a greater capacity (unless you live in a garbage state) which gives you more chances to make a hit on a vital area.

Before getting into some different handgun options that are out there, it’s important to cover storage. Owning a handgun for self-defense is pretty pointless if you can’t access it, but you also don’t want unintended persons to get access to your pistol. Storage, along with holsters and ammunition, will be covered in post 2.

All of the below handguns will be 9mm. Modern expanding hollowpoint ammunition has largely eliminated the advantages of larger cartridges, and the general, widespread availability of inexpensive 9mm target ammo makes it significantly easier to become proficient with.

Fullsize Handguns
These are also commonly referred to as “Duty Pistols”. These handguns will be heavier, larger, and have a higher magazine capacity. They are difficult to carry concealed in most clothing, but make for a good nightstand gun, or a fun range pistol.

I have a browning 1911 .380 - it’s a super smooth operating pistol.

People always tell me “dude why cc a .380 that has like no stopping power”. But, also the same people saying those things aren’t willing to let me shoot them!!

So, it turns out, a .380 does have stopping power.

In on ikeman gun thread. Bought a Springfield Armory Saint AR-15 based on a previous thread. Wife is petite and 5'1" but carries an SW Shield in 9mm. I'm looking for a good carry pistol for a 6'3" guy with big hands. Not looking to break the bank on a beautiful Kimber piece though.

Really wanted a VP9. Was underwhelmed when I shot it. Really preferred the M&P 2.0
I recently bought a 2.0 compact chambered in 9mm. I like the way it shoots, but not a good conceal carry. My duty weapon at work is a Sig and I usually carry Glocks as my odw. You can’t comfortably conceal a 2.0 compact. It’s a little chunkier then the Glock 19.

i own a p30L and going to buy a glock 19 soon. WHich gen is the best? Im thinking gen 3

I would say Gen 4. There are a lot of things about the Gen 5 that I don't like.

- Lack of finger grooves
- Rounded front end of the slide
- The mags have orange followers and an extended floor plate.

Just to name a few. Although it does have upgraded sights and slightly different finish then other generation Glocks.

The concealable scale is going to drive size considerations more than hand size.

If you wear shorts and a t-shirt, a single stack 9 is going to be easier to conceal. If you wear a suit and tie, it's actually pretty easy to conceal a full size handgun.
