Just lol at a net worth of $33k at 38 years old. Is this thing serious? That's alarmingly low, how do these people expect to survive old age.

I put more than that into my 401a and 457b last year alone. What are these people doing with their money?

Meanwhile in the real world it was $53,144 for those 35-40.

Close to 350k but im getting old and i think its way to low. For misc standards its damn near living in the streets poverty tier. Fwiw i didnt start making decent money untill 35 tho so i guess im “catching up”.

My Mom is like 60 and has worked for the same company for decades and they take care of her sure, but she has never had a 401k or retirement savings. I'd be more than shocked if it was above $5k currently. Luckily she met a really good guy and that should help a lot in regards to finances and savings rate, but ya. You're ahead of very many. Still.

No matter how good you do there will always be people mogging you every step of the way.

The new guy has a handful of houses and that's what he does. he really seems great and she seems happy and she deserves it. Bought her a (used) Infiniti EX35 'recently' (like 1.5-2 yrs ago) in cash. Her choice on car i just told her budget was $25k for that case. I actually received just $20k from an inheritance then and her lease was up and wasn't in the financial position to have more bills to pay and my work was going real well so it made complete sense to me. Ended up being $22.5 so i put in some of 'my own' $ before the inheritance but that's besides the point. New guy 'doesnt want her to pay for anything' and she's had a tough ride with husbands (married, then remarried once for ~10 years, both were unfortunately as*holes or turned out to be). So it's nice to see.

She's told she will be 'taken care of' as her company she works for is sold, which is very soon (like the process is going on, papers signed, ...) but i'm always a realist and have mentioned how money changes everyone and she doesn't have anything on paper like X% of the sale or whatever. But she really trusts them, still....you're in the legal world. you understand
