Norway's government handling of this has been very poor. Way way late on travel restrictions/bans, bad quarantine policies, a **** ton of mistakes and really just showing off a lot of incompetence. It's also very hard to qualify for testing, at this point you either need to be very ill or health personnel.

When that's said I've followed the developments of covid-19 for quite a while now, and I believe that the US handling of this is probably the worst of any "modern" countries, and I'm afraid that the consequences can become wast.

USA got 3.01 times more confirmed cases of covid then Norway, but somehow you got 23 times as many fatalities. That is extremely worrisome, and should tell you how much your health system and government has failed.

Your health system model is by design also very vulnerable when it comes to handling a proper pandemics, think about all the infected people without a health insurance doing there best to dodge your health care.

Recommend that you travel home to Norway
In line with the advice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I, as NTNU’s Rector, strongly recommend that all NTNU students who are outside Norway return home.

This applies especially if you are staying in a country with poorly developed health services. This also applies for countries with poorly developed collective infrastructure, for example the USA, where it can be difficult to get transport to the airport if you don't have a car. The same applies if you don't have health insurance.

The US health care industry is also the most innovative in the world with the US being the leader in medical research, drug development, and the development of medical technology which other nations rely on to sustain their systems. The US is basically the world’s medicine cabinet and the funding to maintain this health care empire comes almost entirely from the private sector.

Population difference is a huge factor and especially the burden of illegal immigrants who use emergency rooms as a personal doctor and give fake info and we have a much larger aging population than other nations with extensive decades of care needed while in other nations they dont live as long and our old people actually survive since we actually generally have abundant food and peaceful lives... Americans are more individualistic and merit based anyway. nothing is free. if everyone worked to their full extent then maybe the theory would be possible. Everyone putting forth the effort means our medical professionals would receive proper compensation for their labor. The reality is that people often just do enough to get by or do nothing at all. Many lack responsibility for thier action such as drug use and bringing children into the world they cannot afford if the first place leaving society to pick up the slack.

There are many long reaching repercussions to socializing everything under the sun. If you look at the liberal utopia of the Scandinavian states you realize in recent decades their labor force has shrunk and people no longer put for the best effort. Why work hard when government will keep you instead. Two things can be true. USA can be (was) poorly prepared for the outbreak, but yes... no one gives two fuks about norway. I've been to Finland and Sweden, Sweden being the most similar to Norway I'm told. You have the capital (which is clean and expensive as fuk) and then a bunch of picturesque rural area for hiking and doing fukall for Norway's entire population which is not much larger than Chicago's. They are going to get worse before they get better. Debt service is a major problem and slated to get worse if we plan to pay full Social Security and Medicaid benefits in a timely manner.
