North America is the land of absolute fat phucks post 2000.
85% of my patients are overweight, at least half are 50lbs+(obese).

You will never see me shame an aspiring 5'8 135lbs brah on this site or otherwise.

Far better off having a flat stomach than being fat regardless of muscle mass.

Seriously tho, back then we didn't have "low fat" foods, the only diet soda was Tab and it sucked, not much else was sugar free either. Yes, there was plenty of fast food, but less of it compared to today. Most gas stations were gas stations, not convenience stores. The biggest convenience store soda you could buy was probably 24 oz. People weren't caught in a trap of "need to workout...working out makes me hungry...eat more...workout more...get tired of working out more...still eating more". People moved around more then, especially young people, which forms their lifestyle into adulthood. So, start thin, stay thin.

My theory is that people are depressed and they need comfort foods to feel happier, but back then in the late 70s early 80s people were not as depressed and they actually didn't eat like pigs, they had more self respect than that

999/1000 times they're simply over eating, obesity happens over a long period of time.

It's too easily accessible to stop at one of the 10 food chains every square mile and pick up a 1000kcal burger w/ small fry.

That's all there is to it. It's almost cheaper to eat out in 2020 North America as well.

I am sure it is the insane variety we have too at the super market. I mean we have an entire section of 30 different types of frozen pizza at most super markets. When I was a kid if you bought pizza at the supermarket it was one ****ty cardboard type. This basically applies to all tasty food.

Everyone is depressed and lazy. The average American is legit a sack of potatoes and can barely lift 45 lbs over their shoulder. Let alone run a mile in less than 12 minutes.

Muscle-wise in the gym is questionable.

Cardio and body fat wise yes.

People aged poorly back then though. I watch a lot of movies from the 80s and it's insane how much older people in there 30s and 40s looked back then compared to now.

It's crazy to see the "fat guy" in movies back in the day. They are basically a dad bod now and wouldnt even be considered that fat by today's standards.
