I dont know about banning the breed but any parent who pets their infant around a pit bull has only their selves to blame when a tragedy like this happens..

Reading that article makes me rage. The family is stupid enough to get a pitbull and let their 1 year old play on the same yard, then have the nerve to set up a GoFundMe for 'expenses'? I hope nobody makes a donation but I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up making alot of $$$ off their negligence. Absolutely sickening.

I have a rescued Lurcher, inside is a sweet and quiet couch potato, as soon as outside it’s like someone who smoked ten bowls of meth and five of pcp or some ****, just wants to run wild, needs constant monitoring, we got her after the young training window she was originally not aggressive toward other dogs but wanted to play very rough how some dogs play super rough, lots of growling and nipping and wrestling, after she was separated from her brother who she could play with her only successful friend was a German Shepard who didn’t mind her crazy antics and size mogged her, but her rough play style made a couple dogs bite her and now she acts more aggressive to other dogs, can’t let her off the leash ever out in public areas other than the dog park after it’s closed we sneak in, she would be at home chasing coyotes down in a field somewhere and she is definitely a liability for potentially attacking another dog, fortunately doesn’t seem to pay much attention to kids but a loud playing child could trigger her, she does also get very aggressive towards old or limping people. We’ve done a lot to try recorrect her behaviors but most people just let their little or big dogs yap and yap and lunge toward her when she’s being calmed so every step forward is met with two back cus or mixed signals and her just doing whatever she wants. She learned a few very advanced commands on literally the first try but ignores proper behavior to attempt to satiate her blood lust ... or play.. it’s not clear any more... very strong and fast for her size I do wrestle her to give her an outlet and she bites and scratches the **** out of me. I let her get my arm and hand sometimes so she thinks she is winning, but she actually prefers to be the submissive one and roll on her back and try bite and kick upward, which goes back to when she would mostly play with her brother I am assuming

People choose dogs because of the way they look, not understanding what the dog was bred to do.

99% of what dogs do is based upon the breed they are and what that breed was originally intended to do.

Hounds seek out follow and alert the hunter to prey.

Bird dogs like poodles and retrievers are bred to bring prey back that the hunter has killed. (Gun dogs like pointers and setters are bred to track birds and hold their position until the Hunter reaches them, then they flush the birds out of the brush and, retrieve the birds that the hunter has shot.)

Herding dogs do just that... They herd flocks.

Then you have the working dogs. They might be guard dogs, they might be bred to rescue humans, they might pull carts.

As far as pit bulls go, they belong to the terrier group. Pit bulls are one of the largest Terriers in existence.

Terriers are the only dog group that are bred to kill their prey.

That doesn't mean that pit bulls are always in kill mode. What that means is that they are extremely driven... More so than other breeds because when they are in the field, it is literally a life-and-death battle.

Very few dogs were raised to be pets. Each dog breed has a specific purpose.

There are companion breeds, dogs that were bred simply to lay around and hang out with you but, because most dog breeds are several hundred years old, people are extremely far removed from the reality of the necessity of a dog breed.

That makes for a dangerous situation when it comes to Pitbulls. Pitbulls are one of the sweetest, most intelligent, funny and playful animals in the world. But, if they are not properly trained to do what humans expect them to do, then they revert to their heritage.

If a dog has nothing to distract it, if it's not been given a task to do, it will do what it was bred to do. If a herding dog doesn't have someone to distract it, it will start herding people.

If a pitbull feels like it is being threatened or its property is being threatened and that dog has not been trained, the outcome can be very very bad.

I have worked with dogs professionally for the past 30 years.

I actually own and operate a bully breed rescue taking in seized fighting dogs from compounds.

Only very rarely do I come across a dog that cannot be rehabilitated at all.

The fighting dogs that I rescue fall into one of two categories once they are assessed. Hunting dog or pet.

The truly gamey dogs, the ones that truly love to fight, will be trained as catch dogs and used to catch feral Hogs. They absolutely love it because it gives them something to focus their attentions on.

The dogs who were used as bait dogs, the dogs that didn't want to fight but had to fight or die are retrained as pets.

We have also had 15 foster children over the years who have worked actively with those animals...

We rescue American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, English bull terriers, American pitbull terriers and American Bulldogs.
