Politicians are always way tinier in person somehow. Even the fat ones tend to have shockingly skinny arms and shoulders.

Maybe it's due being used to seeing them standing on podium or due to well-fitted suits, but they all seem shockingly small. I have stood next to Heiko Maas(German foreign minister) and seen most of German ministers up close. Maas was so tiny and frail. Walking past my own government everyone looked like 3 inches smaller and 40lbs. lighter than on TV. Merkel was way skinnier as well.
Meeting politicians felt like a holiday in India to me.

I agree. I stood next to Merkel and was surprised at how short she was, until I saw Hollande.

Whereas Cameron was quite tall.

On German FMs, Westerwelle's height stood out.
