Zinc is pretty well known to abate the initial infection process in the nose and throat of actual coronaviruses. See Zicam. The chit works against the common cold which is the same type of virus. No reason to believe it would not be effective against SARS-CoV2. Less profit for pharmas if this is known though.

By seriously affected do you mean wind up in hospital? Certainly the majority have an underlying condition(s) but we do have perfectly healthy people in their 30's and 40's requiring ICU support. Some people seem to get a hyper inflammatory response and ARDS that requires ICU support, usually younger people.

I agree with the paediatrician that children get mild if any disease so parents shouldn't be fearful for their children.

That nigerian doctor seems like a moron tbh. A study showing that HCQ improved hiccups in patients (?which study) means f*ck all. And her anecdotal evidence that she gives her patients HCQ and they don't die is useless b/c they were probably going to survive anyway. She's also a primary care physician so the patients she is seeing with covid who are waking into her office wouldn't have significant disease (else they'd be going to hospital), so again, them surviving doesn't tell us much.

I didn't watch the rest, were there certain parts you wanted me to comment on?

A pretty good study published in NEJM (highest regarded medical journal in the world) looked at HCQ and didn't find much benefit. I posted it above.

Dexamethasone and remdesivir in selected patients. Theres evidence they are either not beneficial or possibly even harmful if given to patients not meeting certain criteria (mainly needing oxygen to maintain their O2 sats or having O2 sats <94% on room air) so we choose patients who get them carefully.

Lmaoo strong scenario. Can't say I've had the pleasure of being upstaged by someone with a PHD in social sciences or womens studies. I'd probably tell them to gift if they did though
If people are in respiratory failure then they need to be ventilated or they will eventually continue to decompensated and then die. However I think we are less quick to ventilate them than patients who need ventilation for other reasons, HOWEVER I'm not an ICU doctor so don't take what I say as gospel. At the end of the day its their call who gets ventilated and who doesn't

How about the part where the Nigerian doctor talks about HCQ being used as a preventative measure. Pretty significant for her to say they are treating Covid positive patients with just a simple mask and that none of her staff has tested positive.

Treated ~50 odd
Most common symptoms would be cough, shortness of breath and fever. I'm seeing a skewed sample though b/c I only see patients unwell enough to present to hospital.
Best ways to stay safe are actually really simple- wear a mask if in close contact with others, stay 1.5m apart, wash your hands. Simple things that would go a long way to reducing transmission

Common cold is caused by 3-4 different viruses, the commonest being rhinovirus then coronavirus. However 'coronavirus' is really just a group of viruses that have a similar structure. They cause a wide spectrum of disease. Obviously covid is a subtype of coronavirus that causes much more severe illness in some than the common cold type of coronavirus

I don't know if I buy into the pharma profit thing in this case, dexamethasone is cheap as anything and has proven evidence and so we use it when needed. Pharma sure aint making money when we do that
