Lettuce be pre workout. Having the kids whose parents don't give a chit stay home will be better for education in the U.S. than if they were at school.

Tough break for the kiddos, but it is what it is.

Legit concern. I have a teenager and she is very obviously identifying with the far left version of reality. I think part of it is just idealism, but she gets upset when I try to express that their can be other views on a topic or that sometimes these groups aren't what they say they are.

Just last night she started expounding on BLM and her take on it. I said that I thought defunding the police was foolish and she came back with "you don't understand". Told her that if police are underfunded and/or are afraid to interact with people in black neighborhoods then those areas are likely to suffer from increased crime and decreased police protection. Further that instead of defunding the police maybe we should give them more money so that they have more manpower and can give officers more training and higher wages which could draw better quality people into the profession. Didn't feel like that went anywhere with her.

She doesn't have to agree with me, I just want her to be able to consider different interpretations and solutions and not go along with the crowd because it is the easiest thing to do.

Agree that standards have gone up in TX during my lifetime. I'm not sure if it is all positive though.

I absolutely feel for families who are struggling with online schooling and juggling other jobs and responsibilities. Big but, I have no sympathy for grown adults who cannot discipline their children nor care about their education or feed the children that they created. The abuse and screening for learning disabilities thing is huge, you're totally right about that. But really....I know this is harsh...stupid, lazy people are going to be left behind, and they were already being left behind in public schools. What's really frightening is how much the non-retards are flourishing after not being immersed with kids who are beyond saving. It sucks, but I can't say I'd be mad if I were 15 again and no longer having to tolerate the window lickers for 7 hours a day. Online learning is a joke when you're a joke. :/

I don't even disagree that the option should be there, but I'm not going to stop pointing out how quickly sentiments have changed.

It also seems like if you take away the religious fundamentalism they may get in a private school, or the bullchit discipline issues and test taking prep they deal with, they would actually have time to be normal kids who enjoy normal kid things. Kudos to you if you go through with it.
My n=1 example here: I found public school to be generally miserable and frustrating. Why did we have to learn grammar in 7th grade...and 8th grade...and 9th grade...and so on? Same stuff every year. So I hated school, was turned off by the idea of doing any more of it (college) and didn't really understand that college wasn't the same until I was over 30. Had just started and got pg.

Said it here before, but I do think that compulsory schooling should end after 8th grade. Not that we should stop free public school for either college prep (most traditional HS) or offer various trade programs (would be a godsend IMO).

I might feel differently if our overall school system was succeeding in education the masses and preparing them for gainful employment, or if so many high schools didn't feel the need for armed guards (police). Guards are for prisons. Schools shouldn't be prisons.

I've read several businesses are pushing out opening their offices until at least January 2021. Google says they are sticking with WFH until the summer of 2021.

"Miscers believe in one thing from a party; therefore they must believe in everything that aligns with that party" isn’t a valid argument. That’s basically saying miscers cannot have nuanced opinions.

Will read other posts later but wanted to put that in before any more *******s spam this thread with posts like that

Why is it OK to reel back shutdowns of gyms two weeks ago, but want to force my kids back into school?

I can limit my contact as an adult, but you think children are going to adhere to distance and cleanliness guidelines? What happens when a teacher or kid gets COVID? 14 day quarantine, who school shut down if multiple? Go to work one day, possibly have to call out the next because there's a case every 2 weeks?

At least with them home for the time being, one can plan their fukkin schedule and work day.

Edit: Adding that CA has mandated digital/remote learning for at least the start of the year anyway, even while counties are fighting for in-school reopening late August.

My mother taught me to read.

I was way ahead of the class in kindergarten.

I felt the same - I developed compulsive Trichotillomania in third grade because half the class was illiterate (like, actually illiterate - never learned to write or read, so the class was doing kindergarden work) and I guess it was a way to cope with the maddening boredom. I wouldn't be mad at all if Covid forces an overhaul of public education. Only survived high school because it was a performing arts/early dismissal thing with most of my classes remote.

Yeah, after Google announced we decided that we aren't re-opening, ever. We're saving over 40k in leases a month and there's just no good reason when we've been flourishing during all of this. People actually seem to be happier, including parents which is cool to see.

LOL, I'm mostly just being contrarian because bored. I legitimately feel horrible for teachers, there's really no good solution that I can think of. If kids do end up going back in-person I foresee lots of early retirements.

What I posted has been a popular talking point on the misc for years. I'm not sure if that is caused by public school or just being a normal, observant person who reads things and draws conclusions. Like I said, there has been a noticeable shift over the last few months - an understandable one, I get it.

I have absolutely no idea what fearmongering and being "anti-America" have anything to do with more than a few miscers historically advocating for the opposite of public education. I'm confused by how personally (maybe weirdly? I don't know, but I'm surprised) some of you are taking that statement. I really didn't think it would be controversial considering how observable the argument has been.

It’s not dangerous for children and children rarely transmit it to adults. Anyone keeping their kids out of school are guilty of child abuse unless they adequately homeschool them which I doubt will happen.

Our school district met us halfway.

They gave the us three choices.

-Full time with masks during transitions periods, social distancing and temp checks at entry
-Part-time Monday, Wednesday, Friday (optional) with mandatory Tuesday and Thursday online learning
-Full-time distance learning with mandatory visual check-ins every hour (which I think is overkill)

We opted for full time, my son is 18, can take care of himself and is as healty as an Ox, so I'm not worried

I'm really proud of our district. They have adapted to all the changes from the beginning with light speed. Just a few days after the Safer at Home order was issued our High school had online learning in full swing. They had care packs w/ laptops for p/u for kids who didn't have home computers or modified take home work packets for kids w/o internet. They even went so far as delivering lunches to those in need and organizing birthday parades.

Dying isn't the only possible negative outcome though- 78% with heart damage.
The study looked at 100 patients who had not experienced symptoms related to their heart while battling coronavirus. And according to research, the patients were mostly healthy before their COVID-19 diagnosis. Most had recovered from coronavirus at home and 18 percent never even had any symptoms of the virus. The damage found included inflammation of the heart muscle and the protective tissue that surrounds this vital organ.

What researchers don’t know is how long this heart damage sticks around.

The patients in this study were put through an MRI two to three months after their diagnosis. But this is a troubling sign as we learn more about the long-term effects of the coronavirus. There is already talk of follow up studies on COVID-19 survivors to measure the impact.

Maybe most kids will be perfectly fine. That doesn't mean they won't get it or that they won't /can't spread it.
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – More than 1,450 children under 18 years of age were diagnosed with confirmed COVID-19 during the first three weeks of July. During this timeframe, 29 children were hospitalized for COVID-19, including four admitted to intensive care units.

Parent here of a Junior and a 7th grader. I want my kids back in school. I'm not concerned one bit about them contracting the virus or even bringing it home to myself or wife. At their ages, they are at a critical point in both their education and social interaction.

I am a bit concerned about the school staff though. I suppose proper precautions could be taken to limit the exposure. However, not everybody handles the virus the same and as an employer myself, my employees are my first priority.

Wasn't the "heart study" only looking at abnormalities and included things that may clear up over time?

Yeah I completely agree. One of the main issues with the left is that if you stray for the ideology/talking points you'll be devoured by the mob. There is no room for actual discussion. It's funny that a group that is largely anti religion and pro science essentially treats their beliefs as a religion and often denies obvious scientific fact.

Jocko Willink was saying the same thing about more funding and better training for police and it makes perfect sense. He said they train for something like 2 weeks out of the year which is absolutely ridiculous. It should be a few days to a week every month if you want to see police that are much more well equipped to handle the terrible types of situations they often get into.

Yep, you can never argue with a loser from the far left and have it be an intellectual convo before they get all defensive. They are products of being brainwashed by mainstream media. Any logical argument you give them they will throw an irrational illogical argument back at you. But like I said it's because they are brainwashed and most of their opinions were programmed into them by social media or mainstream media.

The second they require me to inject my children with an unproven vaccine is when I pull my kids from school.

It's safe to go to school now. They should re-open on a normal schedule. No China-Vaccine requirement.

Not a doctor but "structural changes" doesn't seem like the kind of thing that just goes away.
One study examined the cardiac MRIs of 100 people who had recovered from Covid-19 and compared them to heart images from 100 people who were similar but not infected with the virus. Their average age was 49 and two-thirds of the patients had recovered at home. More than two months later, infected patients were more likely to have troubling cardiac signs than people in the control group: 78 patients showed structural changes to their hearts, 76 had evidence of a biomarker signaling cardiac injury typically found after a heart attack, and 60 had signs of inflammation.

These were relatively young, healthy patients who fell ill in the spring, Valentina Puntmann, who led the MRI study, pointed out in an interview. Many of them had just returned from ski vacations. None of them thought they had anything wrong with their hearts.

“The fact that 78% of ‘recovered’ [patients] had evidence of ongoing heart involvement means that the heart is involved in a majority of patients, even if Covid-19 illness does not scream out with the classical heart symptoms, such as anginal chest pain,” she told STAT. She is a cardiologist at University Hospital Frankfurt. “In my view, the relatively clear onset of Covid-19 illness provides an opportunity to take proactive action and to look for heart involvement early.”

Ignoring how awful 99% of all public schooling is what about the kids who rely on school for their meals? Mock the parents all you want but the kids shouldn't have to suffer.

Implying the education system isn’t one of the primary targets of communist libs

When you say they need their “education”, that is less true now that enemies have infiltrated the system. - when they weren’t yet unmasked to be communists and anarchists who hate white men and got their tentacles into the school system administrations.

Schools are infested with communism. You’re not missing out not sending them to be brainwashed to be lesser humans than they would be naturally under guidance of someone who grew up a free thinker.
