Some of the best guitar work I can think of is on Steve Vais Passion and Warfare. I agree with Guthrie Govan and Slash though.

That acoustician YouTube channel is a goldmine, wish I could play as clean as him.

Clichéd as fuk but the solo's that do it for me are Stairway, Little Wing and Comfortably Numb. Fast playing doesn't really move me as much as musicality.

as a guitarist of 17 years, this for me will always be top :



yeah super shred stuff is impressive, but Gilmour's stuff just moves me to another dimension.

petrucci and govan also managed to get the balance between technical ability and 'feel'. lines in the sand has been posted, which is probably my favourite petrucci solo, but this is a very worthy second place for me :

guthrie govan just takes the absolute piss. a pedigree beast and a true master of guitar. the only time i've seen vai mess up is when he played with guthrie.

not as technical and flashy as the previous mentions but SRV is a firm favourite of mine :



the dude used to play with THIRTEEN gauge strings on a strat which is already a longer scale length guitar. for non guitarists that's like acoustic strings on an electric. phenomenal players and poured his heart and soul into it.

not everyone's taste with regards vocals, but this guy ****ing kicks ass too :

lastly. i'm suprised mateus asato hasn't been mentioned. he's not a big name, but his finesse is second to none, john mayer was quoted to say "everyone should aspire to play as clean as mateus"
