Whatever - the oscars couldn’t have meant less to me before, so this means nothing. It’s always been a self congratulatory circle jerk about politics and business anyway.

While all this is true, Oscars did imply a certain level of quality once upon a time. Remember when Braveheart won 6 oscars? That movie would be panned as a showcase of toxic masculinity and anti-LGBT. Now it wouldn't even qualify for best picture.

This is low-key insulting to minorities and women. Do you think that there aren't enough good actors in those categories that they'd get the job on their own?

This is the same thing as people who think "Just hire the best person for the job" discriminates against women and minorities. Why are YOU so convinced that a woman or a minority WON'T get it - you don't think they're capable of excelling on a level playing field?

Eh. That trend will continue, just because it's the direction chit has been going for awhile now. But this dumb chit from the Oscars won't cause more movies like that. They care more about the box office than winning the Oscar. If they can make hundreds of millions in the theaters, or win an award.... they're picking the money.

For me, I legit have been trying to find interests that don't require me to remain indoors. And the ones that do, are for the direct benefit of my current living situation.

The world is on pause, so there really is no better time to rediscover yourself.

If you have been meaning to learn something, you now have all the time in the world to do so. Netflix/Social Media/TV are all time sinks that won't really increase your satisfaction with your living situation. You come out of each session with your screen empty handed.

Level the playing field in your favor by catering your media to your intended hobby. You want to learn guitar? Only use social media to follow people who play guitar and teach technique. Same thing with continually searching for guitar videos on YT; eventually your algorithms will just show guitar videos.

Next, just slowly stop checking into your IG often. Eventually you'll find you went all day without it. Then all week, and then longer.

Don't know anyone who actually cares about the oscars. Think they fell off somewhere around 1999. Boggles my mind people are still seeing movies in theaters at this day and age, regardless of covid.

Beginning in 2024 with the 96th Oscars, films hoping to qualify for the best picture category will have to meet inclusion standards both on camera and behind the scenes.

To meet the onscreen representation standard, at least one of the lead actors or a significant supporting actor must be from an underrepresented racial or ethnic group, whether that means Asian, Hispanic, Black, Indigenous, Native American, Middle Eastern, North African, native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander.

There are alternatives: Thirty percent of all actors in secondary or more minor roles could come from two of the following categories: women, L.G.B.T.Q., an underrepresented racial or ethnic group, or those with cognitive or physical disabilities. Or the main story line must focus on an underrepresented group.
